Shaban Calendar

Shaban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. The importance of this month can easily be predicted with the narration of Hazrat Ayesha binte Hazrat Abu Bakar (RA). Hazrat Ayesha (RA) said about the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that “(she) did not see Him (PBUH) fasting in any other month more than in the Shaban, except Ramzan.”

The Holy Prophet (SAW) said that “Rajab is the month of Allah, Shaban is my month, and Ramzan is the month of my Ummah.”

Events of Shaban

The events that occurred in Shaban are as follows.

• Hazrat Hussain Ibn Ali (RA) was born on 3rd Shaban. He (RA) was the son of Hazrat Ali (RA) and Hazrat Fatima (RA).
• Ali Ibn Hussain Zain Al Abideen was born on the 5th of Shaban. He is also known as Al Sajjid. He was the fourth Imam of Shia Muslims. 
• On 11th Shaban, Abdulhamid II became the king of the ottoman empire. He was the 34th king of the empire. He was the last sultan that ruled the empire effectively.
• 15th Shaban is known as the Laila tul Baraat. It is the night on which decisions about the individual’s future year are made. It is the greatest night. Muslims offer special prayers and recite Darood o Salam on the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They believe it is the night of forgiveness. Muslims also do fasting on the day of the  15th Shaban. The whole night is spent offering prayers, Darood, Salam, and special Tasbihaat. 
• Syed Usman Marwandi passed away on 21st Shaban. He is commonly known as Lal Shehbaz Qalandar. He was a saint and a famous religious poet. 
• One of the famous Sufi and Muslim scholars, Muhammad Usman Damani, died on 22nd Shaban. He belongs to the Naqshbandi family.
