Ramzan (Ramadan) Calendar

Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims spend this whole month doing fasting and offering other prayers. The month begins with the tightening of the moon. There are 29 or 30 days in Ramadan. At the end of Ramzan, after sighting the moon of Shawaal, Muslims celebrate Eid on the 1st of Shawaal.

Fasting from Fajar azan to the Maghrib azan is mandatory on all adult Muslims except old, traveling, lactating mothers, and patients. Muslims believe that the reward of any good deed in Ramzan is multiplied many times than any other month of the Islamic calendar. Charity is a special factor in Ramzan. Muslims pay fix proportion of their income as zakat to the poor and needy persons. Zakat is the most powerful factor to raise the poor in society. Zakat is the favorite deed near Allah Almighty.

Muslims recite Holy Quran in Ramzan. Recitation of the Quran is common in homes and Masjids. With the Isha prayer, a special prayer is also offered, known as Tarawih. It is not compulsory, but Muslims offer it to get the blessings of Allah.

The last ten days of the Ramzan are considered full of blessings. The odd nights of last Ashra are very important for the Muslims. Muslims offer special prayers on these nights to get the blessings of Allah.
