Mandy Moore is pushing back against people who take issue with her sharing a GoFundMe for family members affected by the Los Angeles wildfires. On Thursday, Moore shared a fundraiser for her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, who lost their home in the Eaton fire, writing, “With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever.”

Some of Moore’s followers found the post to be in poor taste, given the fact that she is a successful actor. “Sorry but ur a millionaire and have friends who r millionaires . . Don’t understand why ur asking people for money,” one commenter wrote. “Pretty sure Mandy has boatloads more money than everyone donating to her family. Ridiculous.” wrote someone else.

Moore — whose home was also damaged by the fires — has since turned off comments on the post, but she also edited her caption to address the criticism.

“And people questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are,” she wrote. “We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. no one is forcing you to do anything.”

The This Is Us actor shared in an earlier post that her Altadena home had been damaged in the Eaton fire. “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s not livable but mostly intact,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing that her garage and back house had been destroyed.

Over 10,000 structures, many of them homes, have been destroyed or damaged by the Los Angeles wildfires and nearly 180,000 people have been told to evacuate. If you’re able to, a list of ways to help can be found here.
