Introduction

Educational resources are materials that are


used by the teachers in imparting information in
terms of academic subjects and concepts to the
students. In the present context the use of
technologies and internet has acquired prominence.
The teachers and students making use of them to
prepare well.
Educational Resource

 Educational resources are used in a learning environment


to help and assist with people’s development and
learning. They are designed to reinforce learning and in
some cases allow people to put their knowledge to the
rest. Educational resources are brilliant for teachers and
educators to help them deliver the best quality lessons.
Characteristics of teaching learning
resources
 Attractiveness: It is regarded as one of the main characteristics of
teaching learning resources. When they will be attractive the
students will develop interest and enthusiasm and their mind sets will
get stimulated towards learning.
 Familiarity: Familiarity is a characteristics of teaching learning
resources, which puts emphasis upon the fact that they need to made
use of in order to augument professionalism, fluency and
understanding.
 Novelty: With the advancement taking place and with the advent of
modernization and globalization, it is necessary to make use of
modern,scientific and Innovatuce methods in the teaching learning
processes.
 Utilitarian: The teaching learning resources need to have the
utilitarian value. Resources does not possess any positive or negative
characteristics. But it is the utilitarian value that determines the
positive or negative characteristics.
 Multiple Utility: It is regarded as one of the significant
characteristics of the teaching learning resources. For example
technologies and internet are not only made use of one particular
subject but they are made use of all the subjects.
 Easy of handling: Teaching learning resources should have easy to
handle . For example laptops, I pads, mobile phones etc can be
carried out from one place to another and easy to handle.
Guidelines for selecting teaching
learning resources
 Consider the expected learning outcomes and standards described the
curriculum.
 Consider the particular needs of the students.
 Donot expose students to highly offensive or obscene materials.
 Ensure that teaching and learning resources are suitable for the age
and class.
 Principal/Headmaster may consult teaching faculty of the school
regarding the selection of teaching and learning resources.
Resource centre

 Itis clear that if the resources are to be used


during instruction either by teachers or learners
or both, then resources are to be made available
to [Link] these resources are to be
kept and maintained somewhere. This location is
known as the resource centre.
Resource centre accommodation

 Every education institution has normal classrooms. The


existing classroom may be converted into a resource
centre. The modification of existing ordinary classes can
be done with less cost. The furniture can be rearranged
partitions. If needed can be provided with the help of
plywood. A modern resource centre should be especially
designed for accomodation up to 50 students at one time .
Furniture in a resource centre

Apart from the usual classroom furniture a


resource centre requires the following furniture
1. Worktables
2. Storage of resource materials
3. Display stands
4. Catalogue furniture
 Worktables: In the resource centre learners work in a
group or individually. Worktables are required for
providing work facilities. Sometimes they need large
works for surfaces to spread maps, charts, plans, diagrams
and illustrations. Thus a resource centre may have several
tables.
 Storage of resource materials: Storage in resource centre
usually be a problem because of the variety of shapes and
sizes of the materials used in the instruction. It would
therefore be essential to procure containers of varying
capacities for proper storage of items .
 Display stands: As mentioned earlier the resources may
be used both by the teachers as well as the learners. One
may also display the completed work of the learners of
newly acquired resources. For this display stands are
required. These can be of pin board, or soft board type .
The display stands can be fixed on the wall or be portable
 Catalogue furniture: The resource centre contains a
variety of resources. These are available in the store. The
learner would like to know what resource are available.
To facilitate this and make it user friendly it is essential
to index the resources. This furnitures which helps in
storing indexed cards is called catalogue furniture. It is
designed according to the requirement of the resource
centre.
Aims and objectives of resource centre

 Encourage community participation to enhance the atmosphere of


value oriented education.
 Establish a network like minded and develop each network.
 Thr process of learning will be child oriented and activity based so
that the dropout rate can be reduced.
 It should cover the physical, social, spiritual and moral development
of the integral human personality.
 To involve teachers in the primary schools in an organized and
effective way
 To spread the idea of improvising the quality of education.
Conclusion

 Educational resources can overcome the barriers to


students access to course materials while also reducing
the cost of higher education and provide opportunities for
faculty to customise materials to their curriculum and
student needs, potentially increasing students success.
