Malcom Adiseshiah Committee
Malcom Adiseshiah was an Indian economist who spent ten years teaching economics in Calcutta and Madras before joining UNESCO, where he authored over 48,000 pages on socio-economic development in India. He went on to found the Madras Institute of Development Studies and serve in several advisory roles including the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, as Vice-Chancellor of Madras University, and as a member of Parliament. Adiseshiah was a proponent for investment in education, believing it offered one of the highest rates of return of any public or private sector.
