Instruction Learning
Process-Warm-up
This lesson plan will build upon previous lessons in class.
Previous lessons have focused on literature being a
medium and tool for expanding our knowledge and
appreciation for other cultures. The roleplay scenario
given to the students will be:
Aliens have landed on Earth, and they just happened
to land at the school! They have come from far away in
search of other life forms, to help and share their
advanced technology. Their knowledge could
potentially help advance the human civilization in
every way. But they are not sure if Earth is the best
choice, they only want to share their technology with
an exceptional planet.
Instruction Learning Process-
Introduction Continued
Students' mission will be to research, using the provided

materials, and create a speech they will present to the
aliens. To persuade the aliens, they should help the
people of planet Earth; their statement should provide
examples of achievements by humans on Earth.
To represent the unique diversity of the human race
students will use different geographical areas of Earth.
Students will be instructed to be mindful and efficient
with their time because the aliens have only given a
limited amount of time for the speech deadline.

Reflection
 Students were able to think about the importance of
reading in their lives by reflecting, questioning, and
gathering information. As fourth graders, they have
strengthened the idea of how reading/literature can
expand their world.
 Students have viewed concrete examples of
achievement and history on a global scale.
 Students were excited to have a “roleplay” activity. At
times students were a little noisy, but overall students
were excited to work together and research. Students
also appreciated the opportunity to use digital
technology in the classroom.
Reflection Continued
 Students worked as a team and strengthened the class

community.
 Peer learning.
Weaknesses
 A lot of work in a short amount of time.
 Possibly difficult for students who have less experience
with computers/media technology
 Students may become loud or unruly.
 Some students may not be comfortable with a
nontraditional assignment.
