Reflection Essay

My proudest Work of Senior Year

The assignment I have chosen to be the one that I feel I did the best on and put utmost

effort into is my On Your Own Project from Economics. For this project we were required to

establish a legitimate plan for hypothetically living on your own after graduating. This included

calculating the cost of school, housing, food, bills, etc. I had done a lot of research for this

assignment and even called the apartment complex to get information regarding the apartment I

was looking at. I tried to make sure everything was as accurate as possible. Additionally, I scored

very well on this assignment and it really helped me understand how difficult it truly is to be

living on my own. However, something I struggled with for this assignment was trying to find

every cost of living. It can be very easy to forget about basic things that sometimes we take for

granted. An example of this included transportation. In my project I wrote it as if I would be at

SDSU living in an off campus apartment and wouldn’t be able to afford a car so I decided to buy

an electric bike off of craigslist. I would be saving for a car but the difficulty with this was that I

couldn’t take my e-bike too far for work. This project was very helpful so better my

understanding of the reality of how expensive to live on my own, in comparison to living at

home. It really opened my eyes to how much I need to prepare financially for when I go off to

college and eventually get my own apartment.

My Years at GOHS

Throughout the 4 years I have been at Great Oak I have overall kept my grades pretty

steady with mostly A’s and an occasional B. My junior year, I had the most heavy course load,

however I really enjoyed that year even though I was in 3 APs and I finished first semester with

a 4.5. AP Psychology was one of my favorite classes and it really helped me discover my love

for that subject, and I am now a psychology major. Senior year has by far been my hardest year

primarily due to the AP classes I chose. AP Art History, which is a fully online course, can be

really difficult for me to keep up with because of the extreme amount of notes each week. Also

AP PreCalc is a very difficult course, I have never taken AP math before but I thought it would

be good since I enjoy math, however this course is extremely difficult and everyday we learn

something new and it can be hard to keep up. Overall I would say I have grown the most with

my Psychology knowledge and now I am taking IB Psychology which I really like and can’t wait

to further my education in.

Room for Improvement

Something I would like to improve on is work ethic when it comes to doing notes. I have

a difficult time with procrastination and especially when it comes to notes. The classes where

most of my grade comes from notes I tend to do worse in since I usually turn in my notes late. A

class I would like to improve in is AP Pre Calc. This class is really confusing for me and I'd like

to dedicate more time to understanding it. When in college I know that I will need to get extra

help in math if I still find it difficult, but if I understand the material I will like it since math used

to be one of my favorite subjects. Conclusively, I need to work on my procrastination habits and

dedicate more time in my day to doing homework so that it doesn’t pile up.

I am Ready

Over these last 4 years I have grown academically and socially in numerous ways. I have

tried out many different courses and clubs such as culinary arts, psychology, spanish, AP art

history, CSF, rho kappa, paws clubs, etc. I am very thankful to have been given so many great

opportunities at Great Oak which has really helped open my eyes to see what I enjoy and what I

don’t. Following graduation, I hope to attend SDSU and pursue my major in psychology and a

minor in marketing. This year has helped me the most to feel prepared for college life. I took

economics in the first semester where I learned a lot of important concepts such as starting a

business, the stock market, and the cost of living on my own. I am now in government where I

am learning all about the government systems and the history behind it. My fellow peers and I

will all be 18 at some point soon and can vote in the upcoming election so understanding how

that works is crucial. These years of high school shape us into who we are today and I would say

that I have changed a lot over the years but overall I feel ready to begin a new chapter in my life.
