Project Title: SCHOOL-BASED TRAINING WORKSHOP IN CAMPUS

JOURNALISM

School: PANGANIBAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Proponents: School Head and Language Teachers
Target Date: September 29-30, 2022
Project Contacts: Panganiban National High School page on Facebook

II. SUMMARY

This pandemic has challenged the teachers' academic performance of students.

Consistent with Republic Act No. 7079, an act providing for the development and
promotion of campus journalism and other purposes, our school aims to conduct a
school-based training workshop in journalism for the benefit of the students.

Through exercises and workshops in journalism, students learn how to formulate

a clear objective description of reality and clearly express their views. It can also hone
courage, and pessimism and nurture the talents of students. Moreover, through writing
exercises in journalism, students understand media values, tradition, ethics, and skill.

III. BACKGROUND

Writing is one of the basic skills that 21st-century learners must acquire. It is
systematic and methodological not spontaneous. It is a skill that can be learned or
mastered through practice. Regular writing will help students become quicker in
constructing sentences and conveying opinions. It is an essential skill that would be
beneficial to students not just in academic performance but also in every aspect of life.
When students are trained in writing, it will become a part of them. Likewise,
writing as a pleasure would also be good for students’ mental, social, and emotional
health. It can be an avenue to express their thoughts while being productive and
competitive at the same time. In addition, the activity will ignite students' enthusiasm
and interest, especially aspiring writers in practicing their craft.

IV. OBJECTIVES AND OUTPUTS

Objectives of the Activity:
1. Develop the writing skills of students.
2. Present theories and techniques of journalism.
3. Develop enthusiasm and interest in aspiring writers.

The speakers will conduct sessions about the topic and workshops will follow.
The project is open for the Panganiban NHS students in all grade levels to enhance
their skills in writing. The expected participants per session are 30-40 students. This is
to minimize the exposure to the risks of COVID-19. The proponents of this project
acknowledge the apprehensions of conducting limited face-to-face interactions. Rest
assured that this activity will follow and observe the precautionary health measures of
the DOH and IATF protocols guided by the DepEd Order 15, s. 2020, along with the
parent’s consent.
A narrative and accomplishment report with documentation will be submitted
after the conduct of this project.
