DIRECTION: Develop a Community Nursing Process based on this scenario;

The Barangay Liputan is an island barangay that can be reached only by boat.

The total population is 6,745. The source of income is fishing, but due to pollution of the

water in the streams and rivers no more fish are caught in the area, so women shifted to

become market vendors in the nearby municipalities. There are some sari-sari stores in

the barangay. Electricity is the power used in the barangay. The roads are cemented.

The health indices of the barangay are: Total birth 44, death 8, no Maternal Death, fetal

death 1, Infant death 2. the source of water is a deep well, owned by private

individuals. Some households have their pitcher-type pump or their water supply. The

Causes of death are as follows, Heart diseases and cardiovascular accident 3, diarrhea

2, Diabetes 1, Cancer 1, and stillbirth 1. Common Illnesses recorded are as follows,

Hypertension 65, cough and colds 80, diarrhea 33, malnutrition 11, parasitism 22.

The MHO and CHN visit the place once a month, and there is a midwife assigned

in the area that could help the community.

There is an elementary school in the barangay and to proceed to further studies,

students must go to town proper or other municipalities. Many children were not able to

proceed with their schooling due to poverty.

The people in the barangay were devoted Catholics, they celebrated their fiesta

every year and other church activities.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

A barangay situated on an island that can be reached by the means of a boat.

The Barangay has a source of electric power, and the source of their water is a deep

well, the roads were cemented. The stream and river in the Barangay are polluted.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL SYSTEM

Only the midwife is the health care giver in Barangay Liputan.

ECONOMIC

Since the streams and river of the Barangay were polluted and there were no

more fish to be caught, the women of Barangay have become market vendors, and

some have a sari-sari store.

SAFETY AND TRANSPORTATION

The Barangays’ main transportation is by boat, but the Barangay has a road and

it was cemented. The main source of drinking water for people in Barangay Liputan was

a deep well and some used pitcher-type pumps.


POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT

The people of Barangay Liputan are devoted Catholics. The people of barangay

Liputan were celebrating Fiestas and activities of church every year.

COMMUNICATION

There was no mentioned means of communication in the given scenario.

EDUCATION

The Barangay has an Elementary School, but doesn’t have a Secondary and

Tertiary School. To continue the study of the people of Barangay Liputan they need to

go to other Municipalities, and because of poverty, the people of Barangay Liputan did

not proceed with their studies.

RECREATION

The only recreation mentioned in the scenario was church-related activities and

may include fishing.
