4. Discussion

Teacher's Activity

What Words come up to your mind if you heard the word adjectives?
Anyone?
Yes, Angel?
Thank you for your Opinion Angel you may take your seat.
The words Adjectives means it's the word we use to describe people, places, and things so mean
The word Adjectives Modify Nouns because persons, animals, places and, things are what we
called nouns.

The word modify means to change something in some way so, adjectives change the noun.

For example instead of writing the Dog run so the adjectives can help to describe the words to be
more clear the pictures in our heads when we read, speak, and write like in our example:

"The dog run" it can cause our readers or listeners to think and to guess its possibility so, instead of
writing "The dog run" we can describe the dog to clarify our meaning to our readers or listeners by
using adjectives.

"The short, furry dog run" so the adjectives "Short" and "Furry" describe how the dog looks,
making a clearer picture for our readers and listeners.

Adjectives describe how a noun looks, sounds, smells, feels, or tastes.

and now get ready to use your imaginative senses I will show a picture and try to describe the
picture using adjectives

(Show an Apple Picture)

This apple is a noun, right? What could some adjectives be to describe this apple?
Yes, Angel?
Well, it looks red, round, and shiny and how does the apple sound?
Yes, Dave?
We don't hear anything from apple because the apple doesn't make noise but if there's
anyone or someone took a bite it might sound crunchy.

How does the apple smell?

Okey?
The whole apple may not have much of a smell but that can change when it is bake.
How does an apple feel?
yes, Dave?
It feels hard and smooth and lastly, how does an apple taste?
Yes, anyone?
Well, some of the apples are sweet and some of the apples are tart and sour.
But we can say also that the apple is delicious.
So now look at all of these adjectives we have to describe an apple.
so, using our senses can help us to describe and use adjectives.
I want you to read all of these.

And now let's identify adjectives in some simple sentences

so first, we need to find the nouns in the sentence remember nouns are persons, animals,
places, and things we read, speak, and write about.
Next, we need to find each word that describes how the noun looks, sounds, smells or tastes
these words are adjectives.

e.g. "The beautiful and cute baby wearing a red dress"

A baby is a person and the dress is the thing so, these are the nouns in our sentence
let's circle them but which words describe how the baby and dress look, sound, smell, feel, or taste
How does the baby look?
Yes?
Correct!
Cute and beautiful! right! "cute" and "beautiful" are the adjectives
Can you find another adjective in this sentence? Dress is our other noun,
do you see a word that describes the dress? how the dress looks, sounds, smells, feels, or taste?
Red! yes! the dress is red

"cute" "Beautiful" and "red" are the adjectives in this sentence.

let's try another sentence, remember that first, we need to find the nouns in the sentence
and find the adjectives that describe the nouns in the sentence
how it looks, sounds, smells, feels, or tastes

e.g. "The Poor Tomas ate loud fruit and drunk hot water"
Tomas, Fruit, and water are our nouns in this sentence so now, let's find the adjectives
that describe our nouns in this sentence.

Do you see and adjectives that describe Tomas?

Yes, Juliana?
Yes, poor is an adjective that describes Tomas, how about the word fruit which word describes
our noun fruit in this sentence?

Yes, Judd?
Correct, loud! and can you see the adjective word that describes water?
Yes, Jerry?
Correct! it's hot!

Poor, Loud, and hot are Adjectives that describe the nouns in this sentence.

So, you now know that adjectives are describing words

and you also know that adjectives describe how a nouns looks, sounds, smells, feels, or tastes

and you can identify adjectives in the sentences.
