Brigada Pagbasa Accomplishment Report

S.Y 2021-2022

Department of Education’s advocacy is to provide quality, efficient and accessible

education to our school children. Brigada Eskwela is one of the activity every school year.
Now, Brigada Eskwela is setting up the pace in implementing Brigada Pagbasa Program
which aims to bring together all education champions and supporters to contribute to nation
building by helping all Filipino children how to read in the context of partnership.

In response to this call, Marbel 1 Central Elementary School planned activities that
will help learners improve their reading ability, develop genuine love for reading and nurture
a culture of reading at home. Richard Allington quoted that, “the best way to become a better
reader is to read more.”

The Pre-Implementation phase, started on August 13, 2021. Marbel 1 Central

Elementary School Brigada Pagbasa Team conceptualized action plan and matrix of the said
activity, reproduced the materials that will be used during the conduct of the program and
orientation to the selected teachers who will be part of the program. The recipients of the
Brigada Pagbasa were those struggling readers based from the post assessment results
presented by the school reading coordinator. The team selected only 15 learners, who were
really needs immediate reading remediation despite of their grade level. The team also
conducted Home Visitation Orientation but the team made sure that we were following the
health protocol implemented by the IATF. After the orientation parents signed a consent form
allowing his/her child to be part of the program.

The Implementation Proper was on August 16, 2021-September 25, 2021. During the
implementation all learners were given printed reading materials from Tara na Tayo’y
Magbasa a Division Reading Material. Parents were also instructed that they will be the one
who will pick-up the materials in school. Parents guided their children in reading the given
materials while the teachers’ gave time to visit the pupils assigned to them to monitor their
progress in reading. During home visitations, teachers assigned bring with them the
individual monitoring tool of the learner.

The post implementation was on September 25-30, 2021. During post-

implementation, we conducted face-to-face post-assessment to evaluate the improvement of
learners reading level. Based on the result of post-assessment, from 15 struggling readers at
the beginning of the program, it lower down to 10 struggling readers after the Brigada
Pagbasa Program. Aside from post-assessment, we aslo conducted culmination activity where
we distributed learning kit, and snacks to the pupils and certificate of recognition to the
parents. We are thankful that our barangay captain Margarita D. Subaldo and one of our
stakeholders Jorgie Liza P. Reyes pledge their full support to the activity by donating cash
that we used to buy learning kits and snacks during the culmination.

At the end of Brigada Pagbasa Program, division personnel Sir Richard P. Moral, Jr.
EPS in Filipino/MTB-MLE was the one assigned to evaluate and validated the
implementation of the program in the school. Evaluation day was on October 4, 2021. During
evaluation Brigada Pagbasa Team were all present together with our District Supervisor Elisa
B. Flores, School Head Maam Ma. Fe Lita S. Yparraguirre and Assistant School Principal
Maam Arlene L. Dalmacio. Sir Richard emphasized the importance and the impact of the
program to the life of the learners as well as to their parents. He told us that it was indeed a
challenging program to be implemented because of the scarcity being brought by COVID-19
pandemic but it was fulfilling to see the result of all the hard work that we do just to help the
learners improve their reading level. We are also thankful that our hard work was recognized
because we are awarded as 2nd placer Best Brigada Pagbasa Implementer Central School
Category. The award we received can motivate us to continue the program to help our
struggling readers to become independent readers amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
