This lesson was about the series of misfortune and injustices event of Rizal’s life. 1 st he failed to get
justice for his family. Second, he received a terrible news about the bad condition of his family. Third, he
had almost had a fight with Antonio Luna and Wenceslao E. Retana. And even lost his locket containing
the picture of Leonor. He also got a letter announcing her fort coming marriage. In 1890 unfortunate
rivalry between Rizal and del Pilar for supremacy was discussed and voted. The Filipinos were divided
into two rival camps Rizalista and Pilaristas. 1891 he left Madrid and proceeded to Biarritz and was
become a welcome guest of Boustead at their Villa Eliada. He even wrote Basa wishing him to live in
Hong Kong and to practice medicine.
I can tell that this lesson is about Rizal’s challenges toward his goal. It was a sequence of unlucky
circumstances about his family, friends, and his love of his life. He almost got a battle of Antonio Luna
and his pen enemy Wenceslao E. Retana. And even rivalry of predominance appears while he was in
Spain. Filipinos were divided into two groups Rizalistas and Pilaristas. Rizal left in Madrid and proceeded
to Biarritz and was welcomed by Boustead at their Villa Eliada. He even wrote Jose Ma. Basa expressing
his wish to live in Hong Kong and practice medicine. And he returned to Brussels in middle of April 1891.
TELL ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE
My favorite part is when Rizal challenge Wenceslao E. Retana to a duel because he insulted his family. I
can tell that he loves his family very much. He is willing to defend and protect his family towards his
enemy no matter what happened or other people will say. At a young age he knows already his priorities
and goal to free and protect the Filipino people and his family from the tyranny of the Spaniards.
RECOMMENDATIONS
You will love this story because it will teach you that no matter how hard or how many
challenges we will encounter, we must move forward. Continue to reach your goal. Do not let other
people hurt and affect you from doing what you really want. This book also reminded us the timeless
effort and injustices that Rizal fought just to reach our freedom until the end of his life. And this event
motivated our love for our country and that we must protect our freedom from those people who will
force full take it.
REFLECTIONS
Rizal returned to Hong Kong in 1891-92, due to the unbearable events in Europe. And to his political
differences with M.H. del Pilar and other Filipinos in Spain. His objective is to lead a propaganda
movement and to be near his beloved Philippines and family. He focuses on his medical practices in
Hong Kong and his colonization project in Borneo. He even write different novels pertaining to our rights
as a man and woman. May 1892 he decided to return to Philippines. To confer with Gov. Despujol
regarding his project , second to established the Liga Filipina in Manila. Third to prove Eduardo de Lete
that he wrong attacking him in Madrid. Rizal wanted to do more for our country for his family and for
the Filipinos but, there are lots of hindrances and problem that arises along his way. Not only that, but
there are also Filipinos wanted him to fail which is not right because they are Filipinos. We are expecting
that they will help Rizal to fight for our freedom but, it didn’t happen. Like nowadays in our country
there are people wanted us to fail. That’s why, we must do our best to show the world that we are
capable of and we are worthy of success.
