Activity 4. Classify the following practices of the human flourishing of the technology it provides
mentioned in the essential knowledge part of this unit.

Technology as Poiesis 2. Tissue culture is applied to produce new

seedlings.
Technology as Poiesis 3. Creating GMO (genetically modified organisms)
products.

Technology as Revealing 9. Undergo medical procedures like surgery to solve

health problem and extend life
Technology as Poiesis 10. Determining the weather conditions through
satellites.

Let’s Analyze

Activity 4. In this part, you are once again required to elaborate your answer thoroughly on the
questions below:

1. How is technology a mode of revealing?

The core of technology is not something we create; it is a way of being or showing
ourselves. This indicates that technical items have a distinct existence, durability, and
linkages between parts and wholes. They each have their own unique style of
expressing themselves and the environment in which it operates. Reality is 'revealed' in
a certain way by engaging into a specific relationship with it. And here is where
technology comes in, since technology is the mode of revelation that defines our
moment. Technology embodies a certain method of disclosing the world, a manner of
revealing in which people gain control over reality.
2. Why should technology be questioned?
The goal of questioning technology is to break free from technology's shackles, not via a
lack of technology, but by a greater comprehension of its core and significance.
Because it is critical to decide how it will be utilized, what the negative and good
elements will be, and how it will affect our lives and society as a whole. It takes a
multifaceted analysis to determine if we will profit from the invention or discovery in the
long run. Technology must be questioned since it affects everyone's lives and the fate
of the planet. Because wisdom is not a technology talent, wise people must supervise
technological employees.

Explain why Heidegger manifest the calculative thinking towards meditative thinking?

Heidegger argues that our grasp on calculative thinking, or rather its hold on us,
produces a condition in which our contemplative or reflective capabilities get blunted
and meaning becomes hidden. Heidegger distinguished the two types of thinking since
both of them works in synergy for the benefit of a human person.

Describe technology as a means to an end, and technology is a human activity.

The term “technology is a means to an end” acknowledges that technology is fully

comprised of tools – tools to achieve something else, practically anything else.
Technology is made up of instruments that make living easier. The majority of
technology consists of labor-saving gadgets, but others exist only to facilitate
entertainment. In any event, technology is never an end in itself. Even the innovators
seek to achieve fame and money by obtaining a patent for their idea. In other words,
technology is once again only a means to a goal.
For positing goals and acquiring and utilizing the tools to achieve them is a human
activity. The creation and use of equipment, tools, and machinery, as well as the made
and utilized items and the purposes and ends that they serve, are all part of what
technology is. Technology is the mechanism by which humans get resources and alter
the environment around them. Function, as it relates to technology, refers to how
humans used tools, equipment, and facilities in the past. The study of the function and
use of space is referred to as human activity.
In a Nutshell

Activity 4.
Heidegger's questioning the technology brought a big realization on flourishing
technology, especially nowadays. All of us seem dependent on the presence of
technology. However, we cannot cover or hide the truth that there are ways already that
technology brought both positive and negative effects on humanity. In this activity, you
require to draw conclusions or write your perspectives about this matter. Again, I will
supply the first item, and you will continue the rest.

1. Flourishing of technology could be bad or good depends on the person using it.
Utilizing technology would be beneficial when there’s a demand for food,
medicine, especially if there's pandemic, etc. to survive. But when it is utilized to
create destruction to humanity and the environment, that’s when it became
terrible. All these, it depends on one's person's action in flourishing technology.

2. In our daily lives, technology has both bad and good effects on mankind. It allows
us to be closer to our loved ones, make new acquaintances, and deepen ties
while being separated by faraway regions and huge seas. As a result, technology
is one of the major reasons why some individuals burn bridges, such as
misunderstanding and cybercrime. Miscommunication is caused by the lack of
precision that face-to-face communication possesses.
3. Technology is extremely essential in our lives, especially in the twenty-first
century, since it allows us to live our lives to the fullest. Technology reduces our
everyday load, but it also has a huge impact on our health. Too much exposure to
digital screens causes digital eye strain. When you use a smartphone, you're also
likely to be holding your head in an uncomfortable forward-leaning position. This
position places a lot of strain on your neck, shoulders, and spine, which can lead
to musculoskeletal issues.

4. Technology has numerous benefits, including enhancing daily living and helping
people to take control of their mental health. Some applications and computer
programs provide clients services and information at a lower cost, particularly in
rural and undeveloped areas. As a result, social media and mobile devices can
cause psychological and physical problems, such as eyestrain and trouble
focusing on critical activities. They may also lead to more significant health issues
like depression. Overuse of technology may have a greater influence on growing
children and teens.
