INTRODUCTORY MESSAGE

Welcome to Grade 8 Arts!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative efforts of the Schools
Division of Capiz and DepEd Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through the Curriculum and
Learning Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators
(teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet the standards set by the
K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials aimed to guide the
learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace and time using the contextualized
resources in the community. This will also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong learning
skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Subject Area Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-learning activities
specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face
encounter between you and learner. This will be made available to the learners with the
references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The Subject Area Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue learning even if
you are not in school. This learning material provides you with meaningful and engaging
activities for independent learning. Being an active learner, carefully read and understand the
instructions then perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned to
your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

SUBJECT AREA ACTIVITY SHEET

I. Learning Competency with Code

 analyzes the elements and principles of art in the production of arts and
crafts inspired by the cultures of East Asia (A8EL-IIb-1)

II. Background Information for Learners

You have already learned about Southeast Asian arts and crafts in the first quarter. Arts is
a way of expressing the author’s imaginative and conceptual ideas intended to be appreciated
for their beauty.
In this learning activity sheet, you will now explore more how these elements and principles
used to achieve fluency in the artworks as we specifically study some of the East Asian arts
and crafts.
It will tell the learners on the big idea about East Asian Arts i.e. East Asian countries share
commonalities in the production of arts as influenced by their religion, philosophy, culture,
beliefs, geographic setting, etc. Learners will study and learn the cultures of East Asia. Influences
and ideas from other sources which have been accepted, absorbed, altered, sometimes
rejected, and creating families of cultures that are related and richly distinctive.
As in the West, religious beliefs have inspired an abundance of imagery that uplifts and
comforts. Faiths such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam have spread through Asia, inspiring
individual expressions of prescribed imagery. Buddhist texts, for example, state what the
relative proportions of a Buddha figure should be, yet each figure is different – a Chinese
Buddha would not be confused with a Thai Buddha. The patronage and preferences of monks,
courts and devotees has resulted in breathtaking, yet stylistically different, temples, sculptures
and ritual objects across Asia.
