1. Identify what the sun heat and light does.


2. Gives evidence that the sun’s heat reaches the earth.

Key Concepts

 The sun is the brightest object we see up in the sky.


The sun is a star and very hot. It is made up of hot
flaming gases. Even though it is impossible for you to
touch the sun, you can feel its heat.
 The sun’s heat keeps Earth warm enough to make
living things stay alive. The sun’s heat dries our
laundry. All plants and animals on earth depend on
energy from the sun to keep them warm.
 The light of the sun is the light of the world. It gives off
its own light. Living things need the light of the sun to
survive.
 Without the light of the sun, you cannot see the
beautiful world around you. You can study, walk, play
or do anything under the light of the sun.

Activity 2. Watch and Observe

What you need:


a pail of water

What to do:
1. Get a glass and fill it with ten tablespoons of water.
2. Mark the initial level of water in the glass using pentel pen.
3. Let it stand under the sun for one hour, observe what will
happen.
4. Answer the guide questions that follow.

1. What happen to the water in the glass after exposing it to the


sun?

2. What did you feel when you touched the glass?

Activity 3. The Sun Dries Our Clothes

What you need:


handkerchief made of cotton, soap, water and pail

What to do:
1. Wash a piece of handkerchief using soap and water.
2. Place it under the sun using a hanger.
3. Observe what happen after 30 minutes.

1. How many minutes did it take the cotton handkerchief to dry?
