INTRODUCTION
The Condenser ’FUTURA’ range was launched during 2011.
The Futura tumble dryers have redesigned Front Panels, Round Doors, Front Air Duct, Plinth, Worktop,
Water Container and a Fast Empty Water Bottle.
These new Tumble Dryers match the ’FUTURA’ Washing Machines.

INSTALLATION
The dryer MUST be located away from gas stoves, Minimum gap 10mm
hobs or heaters.
If the machine is located under a work surface, there
must be a 10 mm gap around any top or above the
dryer and a minimum 15 mm space along each side.
This is to ensure correct air circulation.
Minimum gaps
15mm

Draining the Machine into an Internal Drain

If the machine drains into an external drain, the water container will not need to be regularly emptied.
The height of the drain must be less than 1 metre from the bottom of the dryer.
Remove the existing hose from the position shown, Fig. 1. Fit a suitable length of hose (Part No.
C00279043) to the location shown in the photo (Fig. 2).

MACHINE FUNCTION

Drying Overview
These models are freestanding tumble dryers with a full width metal door.
Reversible hinges allow the door to be hung on either the left or right hand side of the front panel. The
appliance is supplied with the door hung on the left hand side of the cabinet.
The facia moulding across the top of the front panel houses the machine user controls and water
container.

The drum is supported at the front by 2 drum support wheels or 4 bearing pads (depending on model)
mounted on the front air duct and a single bearing at the rear located in the rear panel. A shaft fixed
to the rear of the drum runs in the rear bearing. The drum is driven by a belt which passes around its
periphery and onto the shaft of a motor secured to the base of the machine. The belt is tensioned by
a pulley mounted to the motor.
The motor also drives two impellers
(rotors), fixed to each end of its shaft. CONDENSER DRYER
The front impeller draws cold air into AIR FLOW
the machine, while the rear impeller
recirculates drying air.

The addition of heat to the

recirculating air is provided by a
heating unit attached to the rear Cooling Air Circuit
panel, enabling the air to hold (open to atmosphere)
moisture when in contact with the wet
Recirculating Air Circuit
load, thus causing it to dry. As the (sealed)
warm recirculating air passes through
the drum, it collects lint as well as
moisture. To prevent the lint from
blocking the heat exchanger
(condenser), the air is passed through
a filter located in the front air duct.

The filter unit is positioned so as to be easily removable for cleaning by the user. After passing through
the filter, the circulating air is ducted through passageways in a heat exchanger (condenser) located
in a housing on the base of the machine. Cold air is drawn into the machine and flows across the heat
exchanger passageways. This cold air is not mixed with the warm, damp recirculating air. See the
condenser airflow picture.

This has the effect of reducing the circulating air temperature, causing it to give up its moisture.
(Cold air holds less moisture than hot air.) The now warm cooling air is exhausted through slots in the
rear of the dryer. The moisture removed from the recirculating air is pumped to a removable container
mounted in the left hand side of the console. The user can easily withdraw the container to dispose
of the collected condensed water. There is no requirement for venting to atmosphere on this dryer.

Controls Overview
The user controls consist of an LCD display, programme selection buttons, option buttons; start reset
button and a stand-by button.
The control system consists of a control module, 2 thermistors and a conductivity sensor.
The conductivity sensor is mounted in the front air duct. A single wire connects the sensor to the
control module. The thermistors and conductivity sensor sends values back to the control module.
The control module then determines the programme duration and dryness of the load in a set values
for a particular programme held within the control module software.

Sensor Strip

The control module is located behind the right hand side panel and there is a service port behind the
plinth cover that allows attachment of a computer to programme the EEPROM.
The control module can be programmed with the relevant eeprom file if the module is replaced, the
eeprom file becomes corrupted or if an updated file becomes available.
Once the programme has started an estimate is made within 10 minutes of the programme starting
to determine the moisture content in the load and therefore the required time to complete the
programme. This is achieved by use of the front thermistor, rear thermistor and conductivity sensor.
The display will then count down from the estimated time.
Note: - During the first 3 minutes of this Auto Sensing period the heater and pump are off.

If the display reaches 10 minutes and the signal from the sensor has not reached the required value,
the display will remain at 10 minutes until the required dryness level is obtained.
If, after the maximum programme time of 240 minutes, the clothes are still not dry, the programme
advances to cool tumble and completes the programme. No fault is indicated if this occurs.
The module also controls the heater. This has an upper and lower element. The lower (static)
element is permanently energised (except in cool tumble) and the upper element (dynamic) is cycled
on and off by the control module during a programme to maintain the correct temperature within the
drum for the programme selected.
If the user turns off the power or disconnects the mains cable or there is a power cut, the dryer will
remember its last settings and resume the programme when the start button is pressed.
The start of a programme can be delayed up to a maximum of 24 hours programmed in 1 hour steps.
The maximum delay time available depends on the model.
Crease Care
If the Delay Option is set, when Crease Care is enabled the drum will tumble the clothes for 3
seconds every 30 minutes for the duration of the delay period to minimise creasing.
When Crease Care is enabled, when the Programme has finished the Drum will tumble for 3 seconds
every 4 minutes up to a maximum of 10 hours to prevent the clothes from creasing.

In the event of a controls or thermistor failure, a one-shot cut-out thermostat is fitted as a safety
device.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES - special programmes available depend on model

Easy Iron Programme

Easy Iron is a short 10 minute programme (8 minutes of heat followed by a 2 minute cool tumble
period) which fluffs the fibres of the clothing that has been left in the same position/location for an
extended period of time. The cycle relaxes the fibres and makes them easier to iron and fold.
Easy Iron is not a drying programme and should not be used for wet articles of clothing.
This cycle is ideal for traditional fabrics like cotton or cotton mix, the effect on acrylic fibres is not so
effective.

Wool Programme
• This is a programme for tumble dryer safe garments marked with the symbol .
• It can be used for load sizes up to 1 kg (approximately 3 sweaters).
• We recommend that garments are turned inside out before drying.
• This programme will take about 60 minutes, but may take longer depending on the size and
density of the load and the spin speed used in your washer.
• Loads dried using this programme are usually ready to wear, but on some heavier garments the
edges may be slightly damp. Allow these to dry naturally as over-drying could damage
garments.
Note:-
Unlike other materials, the mechanism of wool shrinkage is irreversible; i.e. it will not stretch back to
the original size and shape.
This programme is not suitable for Acrylic garments. Only Woollen garments should be dried.
The wool cycle does not use the conductivity sensor to monitor the dryness of the clothes. The load is monitored by the front thermistor.

Anti Allergy Programme

Can be used for Wet or Dry Loads

Maximum Loads: Wet 9 Kg or Dry 4 Kg.
This programme effectively reduces and eliminates allergens from the clothes, by keeping the
temperature constant for an extended period of time. (The Anti Allergy phase of the Cycle). This is
achieved by the machine tumbling in a anti Clockwise direction only for approximately 80 minutes.
Cycle Duration
Normal operation 80 minutes - reverse only Normal operation
Drum forward and reverse Drum forward and reverse
The Anti Allergy Programme has different characteristics to the other cycles.
The programme has three phases: -
Phase One: Conventional Drying. Forward and reverse action plus heat for approximately
20 minutes. (The actual time of this phase will vary due to dampness and the load being dried.)
Phase Two: Anti Allergy Phase, 80 minutes of reverse action only at a constant temperature, which
is above the normal programme temperature.
Phase Three:Conventional drying with Cool Down. Time depends on the load being dried.
Note: The anti-allergy phase of the drying cycle is not intended to dry clothes. The drying phase
continues once the anti-allergy phase has completed.

Cuddly Toy Programme

With this programme you can remove dust easier and wash the cuddly toys more often because the
drying time very much reduced compared to drying in the open air. It is a delicate drying cycle that
dries at low temperature and with soft mechanical action to maintain at best the original look and shine
of the fur. Note: For allergy protection, just freeze cuddly toys for 24 hours then wash and dry them.
Repeat every 6 weeks. Before drying remove accessories such as clothes, collars or sound boxes
and protect plastic eyes with masking tape after drying them with a cloth.
This programme will take about 200 minutes and tumbles clockwise only:
Load: Not exceeding 2.5 Kg total load. No individual item to exceed 600 grammes.
Dryness Level: Only Cupboard Dry. Clockwise Rotation Only.

Baby Delicate Programme

• This is a programme for drying your baby’s small delicate items of clothing and bedding (Cotton
and Chenille) and for drying your delicate clothes.
• DO NOT dry items such as bibs and nappy pants with plastic coverings.
• It can be used for load sizes up to 2 Kg.
• This programme will take about 120 minutes, but may take longer depending on the size and
density of the load and the spin speed used in your washer.
• Loads dried using this programme are usually ready to wear, but on some heavier garments the
edges may be slightly damp. If this is the case, try turning items inside out and running the
programme again for a short period.

Extra Care Programme

This anti-ageing function for Cottons and Synthetics helps to maintain the brightness of your laundry
for a long time thanks to the use of the right drum rotation (reduced in the last part of the cycle) and
the correct drying temperature. Note: It cannot be used with the 'Extra Dry' and 'Cupboard Dry'
dryness levels.
This option modifies the final stages of the cycle with reduced drum action (long pauses during
direction change).
Heat & Enjoy
This programme helps to heat towels and bathrobes for a warm sensation after a bath or shower. It
is also useful for warming clothes before dressing during winter. The cycle heats clothes to 37°C
(Body Temperature) and runs at this temperature until you stop the cycle.
The user stops the cycle by opening the door or cancelling the cycle.
Maximum load 3 Kg.
The Heat & Enjoy cycle is a very short programme that after a short period the user then stops the
cycle. The cycle temperature is controlled at 37°C and does not have an end time. The cycle would
time out after 240 minutes if the user does not stop the cycle.

LCD Display Models - Note: During the Heat & Enjoy Programme the Start/Pause light flashes
Amber, the High Heat Indicator is on and the display shows:
Top Line - "AIRING"
Second Line Scrolls - "END OF CYCLE, POST CARE PHASE"
LED Models - Note: During the Heat & Enjoy Programme the Start/Pause light flashes Amber, the
High Heat Indicator is On and the End LED is illuminated.
To start the Heat & Enjoy Programme press the Refresh Programme button and then select
the High Heat option.
Opening the door during Heat & Enjoy will end the cycle.

Quick Dry
This programme is for small loads maximum 1 Kg.
Your drying time is very much reduced with a huge time saving up to 53% on cottons (with high heat
option) and 50% on synthetics (with low heat option).
This programme will take about 30 minutes: Load 1 Kg - and can only be used with Dryness Level:
Cupboard Dry.
This option will only dry the clothes with loads of 1 Kg or less.
The front thermistor will monitor the target temperature to complete the drying.

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION

B Energy Model differences:

- B Energy Machine Differences
- Insulation Pad on Heater Cover
- Settings File with an energy saving profile (see module below)

Door Water container

The Door is constructed of several Rating plate

components, with an Easy Clean Door Bowl

and inner and outer door panels that are Model & Serial numbers

screwed together.
The Door is NOT reversible.
Filter

Condenser cover handle

(Pull to open)
Condenser cover
. Air intake grille

Filter
Comprises of a plastic mesh moulded into its housing, which slides into the front air duct.
Door Switch
Normally open single pole microswitch activated by the door on closure. This is the first switch in the
electrical circuit and therefore its rating corresponds to the full loading of the product.
Control Module
This is an Electronic Device that monitors and controls all devices within the tumble dryer.
A production module is pre programmed at the factory with the relevant programmed file.
Service Modules are supplied non programmed and it is necessary for the Module to be
programmed by the Service Engineer.
See pages 30 & 31 for Module programming.
B Energy Models
B Energy models include an energy saving feature with an intelligent dryness algorithm. During the
later stages of the of the cycle, when the clothes are nearly dry, the module by accurately monitoring
the temperature in side the drum is able to reduce the heater on time, saving energy. This energy
saving profile is held within the settings file.
Heater Unit
The heater is fixed by screws to the rear cover. The heater elements, thermal controls, thermistors and
rear cover are supplied as an assembly and has Five and Two way connectors provided to interface with
the electronic module. The heater has an upper and lower heater. The lower (static) heater is
permanently energised and the upper heater (dynamic) is cycled on and off by the control module during
a programme to maintain the correct temperature for the programme selected.
One-Shot (Safety) Thermostat (White Spot)
This device is a disc type thermostat set to operate at 143°C. It is used as a safety device.
It is positioned above the element. If this device fails it cannot be reset.
Note: If the One-Shot (safety) thermostat operates (opens) the dryer will continue with the
cycle without heating or drying the clothes. No fault code will display.

Cycling Thermostat
The cycling thermostat is mounted adjacent to the one-shot (safety) and is designed to open at 106°C.
It limits the temperature of the heat entering the drum.
Drum
The drum comprises of a zinc coated front and rear body and two
removable plastic lifters. The rear of the drum is perforated to
allow the passage of air. Fixed to the rear pressing is a support
shaft which runs in a bearing located in the rear panel of the dryer.
A drive pin and collar on the drum shaft prevents forward thrust
during use. The front lock seam of the drum rotates on front drum
support wheels.

The drum has a patterned finish to allow for

better air circulation within the drum. Patterned drum from a model fitted
with a stainless steel drum
Curved Drum paddles give extra garment
care.

Pump & Float Switch

Mounted on the bottom right hand side of the rear panel, condensate water from the condenser
chamber is pumped via an external hose to the water container situated behind the console.
The pump runs continually throughout the programme (except for the heater off period during auto
drying) and is switched off by the operation of the float switch caused by the water container becoming
full of water. Operation of the float switch causes the heater to be de-energised and operates the empty
water bottle LED on the console.
Float Switch Operation
When the container becomes full, an external hose diverts back the excessive water back into the
pump chamber, this causes the float in the chamber to rise, and operate the micro switch, this action
signals the module that the container is full.
The machine continues to tumble and heat for 1 further minute, after this period if the micro switch is
still in the made position, the heater and pump are disconnected and the machine continues to cool
tumble for a further 10 minutes, the display continues to count down. After this cool down period the
cycle is interrupted, the machine beeps and the Empty water icon is illuminated.
If the machine is re-started without emptying the container, the machine will tumble for approximately
a minute and then return to fault mode.
It the container is emptied and the machine is restarted, the empty water lamp will illuminate for a short
period, then go out and the machine will continue with the cycle, the display will count down from the
last time displayed before the float switch operated.
Motor
A two pole P.S.C running at 2800 rpm with the impeller fitted to the rear end of the shaft and the drive
belt running directly in grooves in the front end of the shaft. It is protected from overload by a
self-resetting internal cut-out that interrupts the electrical supply to the windings.
It is used together with a capacitor that is mounted on the base of the dryer.
Drum Rear Seal
This unit comprises of a ring of foam with a webbing bearing face. Lubrication is applied to the drum
where the webbing surface runs, to reduce noise and wear. The seal reduces air losses at the rear of
the drum. The joints in the foam are sealed with glue and the joints in the webbing are stitched to further
reduce air leakage.
