What is the video all about? Provide a brief summary.
This video is about how Haitians are suffering from low wages labor and how a catholic
priest helps them due to corrupt and unfair systems to wealthy owners of sugar
plantations. Dominicans turned against immigrants Haitians and said that Haitians are
stealing the jobs of Dominicans.
Does this film teach you lessons? What are these lessons?
Be thankful for what you have. Sugar might look useless to you, but when it disappears,
you will desperately look for it. Based on the documentary that I watched, the town used
to be like forced labor camps, whereas some guards protected the area with "bateyes"
or the people of the place.
Compassion towards people and concern can significantly affect the place's current
situation, just like Father Hartley did.
How can you relate yourself to those who are in the video?
The only thing I can relate to the video is how I relate to Father Hartley from how Evil the
people are in this world. They will do anything to criticize you or make some bribery to
create a reason to hate Father Hartley. Being poor is like a consequence of the sinned
we had made in our past life, which now applies to our lives. I used to suffer when my
family eats rice and salt only because life is hard, and there's no shortcut to success.
If you are in their shoes, what would you do? If you are present or near the
situation, what do you think you can do as a person?
I might don't have the passion or commitment of what Father Hartley have, but I will do
my sheer will to help the people in that area and remove the discrimination from both
ethnic. If ever I were in their shoes, I might have just died or done my very best to
survive in that place, or far better to leave the area and look for a capable job that I can
do without worrying about the conflicts between groups of people in that place.
