COURSE OUTCOMES (CO)


Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
CO1 Propose solution using principle of OSH act, regulation, guideline and management
system in an industrial organization; [PO3, LO3,SS1];{C6}.
CO2 Study the reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health,
safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to
professional engineering practice. [PO6, LO5,SS4];{A3}.
CO3 Identify ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and
norms of engineering practice. [PO8 LO6,SS4];{A4}.
CO4 Relate theories and knowledge of OSHA in an industrial environment, make
effective presentations by utilizing ICT technology. [PO9, LO4,SS2];{A4}.

Course Description

This course covers the fundamentals of occupational safety and health in the working environment. These
include the implementation and regulation of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in Malaysia.
The course also covers the identification of occupational health and industrial hazards. The types of
hazards included in this course are industrial hazard, mechanical hazard, chemical hazard, physical
hazard, and psycho-social hazard. Besides that, the course also emphasizes on accident causation,
investigation, and analysis. Occupational Safety and health management system will also be covered.

Teaching Methodology

Lecture

Lectures are given to cover the basic principles of each topic. Reading materials and relevant examples
will be provided.

Mini Project

Students to select one industry / company as case study in mini project. Emphasis is on the health and
safety aspects. For Sem Oct2020, each student needs to produce a report based on his/her
industrial training at the company. The student is expected to produce video presentation based
on the report.
