Warm-up and Objective Discussion
WARM UP
To warm up, teacher uses the application Random questions Generator[ CITATION CBD18 \l
9226 ], which comes up with many random questions in different grammar tenses that students
can easily identify and answer. Students should try to identify the grammar tense of the
question, and then, answer them for all the class. They all can participate, depending on the
time
E.g.
Do you prefer to watch movies in the theater or in the comfort of your own home?
What fact do you try to ignore?
If your childhood had a smell, what would it be?
OBJECTIVE DISCUSSION
Now teacher asks students “are questions important?” “have you imagined the conversations
without questions?” So that students can reflect on the importance of making questions and
why they are part of daily language use. Teacher explains the objectives of the class and asks
if they are meaningful for students.
Instruct and Model R W L S
Teacher plays the video of the Ted talk “Why do we ask questions?” by Michael "Vsauce"
Stevens[CITATION Mic13 \n \t \l 9226 ] for students to watch it for farther discussion. The
Ted talk is about creativity, learning, perspective and questions themselves. After watching the
conference. The teacher will make some extra questions to reflect on the topic.
How many questions do you think you make every day/ in a class/ in this class/ during your
school life?
Do you like to make questions?
Are questions structures in English difficult?
To focus on pronunciation the teacher clarifies the difference between the intonation of the
yes/no questions and the information questions. For students to remember and use it in the rest
of the lesson.
Guided Practice R W L S
Student should now make an interview, it can be about any topic they want, as long as it is not
something very difficult to answer. The topic can vary from the experience in class, person
life, life events, future plans, knowledge on something. Etc. Teacher is walking around to
review the questions they are preparing so that they are easy to answer and accurate. They
should make at least 10 questions.
Independent Practice R W L S
After teacher’s feedback on the questions, students will make pairs so that they can make their
interviews each other. They should not write the answers, just talk and listen carefully to each
other. This activity is just practice for the assessment which is a video where they make the
interviews with other partners.
Assessment R W L S
As homework: Students should look for a different classmate to make the same interview and
record themselves, the interview should not take more than 5 minutes, but it should include
most of the planned questions, the questions should combine yes/no questions and the
interviews should also keep the pace of a normal conversation during the video. Not only state
the questions themselves, but rather make a friendly conversation with their partners.
