HERMINIO G. NICOLAS HIGH SCHOOL
Mahipon, Gapan City
A good preparation is indeed a key to success. Faculty and staff of Herminio G. Nicolas
High School(HGNHS) had a meeting cum planning on May in preparation for the weeklong
activity of Brigada Eskwela slated on May 20 – 25, 2019 . Mrs. Olivia G. Javier, school
principal, together with Mr. Garry M. Perez, Brigada Eskwela coordinator, discussed the
activities that will transpire for the annual program of Department of Education (DepEd).
“Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan” was the activity’s theme which aimed to
prepare the school for the opening of classes for school year 2019-2020.
The motorcade in the first day of Brigada Eskwela became the highlight of the activity
as the faculty and staff of HGNHS and other volunteers such as members of Grace Baptist
Church, parents, and students participated in the parade. It was followed by a kick-off
program in the school’s gymnasium hosted by Mrs. Irene Ojenar, TLE Teacher. In the
program, Mr. Perez discussed the activities for the whole week. He talked about the target
area in the school to be accomplished each day with the help of participants who promised
to cooperate with the school. After the program, teachers and other volunteers which
included some members from the Local Government Unit (LGU), Kabalikat Foundation,
Grace Baptist Church, Bureau of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP), and Bureau of Fire
Protection (BFP) started the cleaning of the classrooms, sweeping of dried leaves in the
school’s ground, and pruning of the trees.
The second day activities started early because the things that teachers wanted to
accomplish were the cleaning of the school’s surrounding which involved gardening and
weeding of plants around the classrooms and school’s grounds, and constructing the letter S
(HGNHS concrete letters). The outside activities seemed to be tiring because of the hot
weather, but they became easy because of the help of the members of Pantawid Pamilyang
Pilipino Program or 4 P’s and other officers from Philippine National Police (PNP)-Gapan
City.
On the third day, teachers became busy with the repairing and repainting of their
classrooms’ chairs, doors, doorknobs, boards, ceiling, and window’s jalousie blades. They
also weeded extra leaves from the trees and plants in front of their respective classrooms.
The alumni of HGNHS were in action in helping the teachers in accomplishing their tasks for
the day. Some members from the City Health Office (CHO) also came to join the activities for
the day. They also gave a short talk about HIV awareness, vaccines, family planning, and
adolescent’s physical changes.
Some members from Iglesia ni Cristo, Lokal ng Mahipon joined in the last day
activities of the school. They helped the teachers in sweeping the dried leaves and cutting
the grasses around the school.
Though the sixth day was the last day of Brigada Eskwela, teachers still have blast of
energy as they did the Zumba activities together with some volunteers. There was also
wellness massage offered by TVL teachers and students to give relaxation to all the
participants. After the Zumba was the closing program which served as the ending of the
long tiring days of beautifying the school. A boodle fight became the reward of everyone for
the efforts that each exerted to make the school ready for the coming school year.
To fulfil the theme of Brigada Eskwela, aside from a good preparation, HGNHS
showed great enthusiasm and cooperation in doing the activities that seemed to be difficult
before, but became easy with the assistance of the some stakeholders who gave their time
and so much effort in helping the school.
Aside from the time and effort that some people contributed, there were also cash
donations with the total amount of P 50,183.00 that teachers have solicited and a total of
P78,782.00 donations in kind with a grand total of P129,055.00 from respective
stakeholders. The donations that the school received were all used for the improvement of
the school and its surrounding.
