The material that I want to change is from my first year high school English book focus on wh-questions. one technique for adaptation of material that I used is adding which can be either extending or expanding. Based from the sample of my photocopied material, there is only 1 exercise for the wh-questions which for me is not enough to practice more the language. The answer in the exercise can be look from the notes in the book and the students like in my case will be dependent in the book since the answer can be found also in the book or in the examples given in the book. One technique in adaptation that I used is extending by making a quantitative change in the material. For example, after I discussed the wh-questions, have a short practice and drill for the whole class using the exercises in the book it can be a game. Then, the material that i will add is a short practice for wh-questions in a pice of paper where the students will supply the possible wh-questions answered by the following information, for example: 1. Answer: (Given) Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue Questions: (The students will give question that is appropriate to the given answer) What does EDSA in EDSA Revolution stand for? 2. Answer: English Question: ________________________________________ In this sample practice that I add, it shows that it is not enough to learn the wh-questions itself, but how the students can formulate wh-questions. Another adaptation technique related to whquestion is the expanding which the change is qualitative. After i have given this extending material, Ill now use expanding classroom material for the students to make connections and associations as well as to visualize. The next material that I add is using posters that shows some announcements and let the students make five different wh questions based on it. After that, they will write their own poster with a clear and complete announcement which answers the wh-question who, what, where, when and they can also add how and why. Through that, they will make a poster that the message of the announcement must be clear and complete. The poster must be attractive so that readers will be interested to read it. The students ability such as creativeness, uniqueness and originality will be shown in this activity.
