Principal letter for recommendation for Kevin Thomas

To whom it may concern,

I am very pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Kevin Thomas
who is currently employed at GEMS World Academy as a Secondary
Assistant Principal responsible for supporting the principal overseeing
grades 9-12 (High School).
I have worked with Kevin since August 2012. As the Secondary School
Principal I am Kevins direct supervisor. I would hope that during his time at
GWA that upon reflection, Kevin is proud of his achievements of which their
have been many, and recognizes the positive impact he has had upon the
Secondary Leadership team and the wider Secondary School program as a
whole.
As the Secondary Assistant Principal, Kevin is part of a collaborative
leadership team that guides 86 teachers in facilitating the teaching and
learning of our 1000 students in grades 6 to 12. The GWA Secondary
Leadership team consists of a Secondary Principal (6-12) and two Secondary
Assistant Principals. While we work 6-12 on most items, Kevins primary
focus is the high school, which currently has an enrolment of five hundred
and fifty (520) students. Kevin has been an instrumental addition to the
Secondary Leadership Team demonstrating an ability to work extremely
productively both independently and collaboratively and most importantly,
very effectively within an extremely demanding working environment. I have
appreciated Kevins understanding of teaching and learning and his impact
upon the school when observing and appraising teachers. As GWA has
moved towards data informed instruction Kevin has chaired a team of
administrators in the creation of an Academic Monitoring policy which has
included the standardizing of a probation and academic contract. The result
was a comprehensive monitoring policy that truly put our students at risk
and their improvement at the center of the policy.
Kevin oversaw and instituted MAP testing for 800 students within the
division, which included scheduling testing, facilities and proctors. It was a
huge undertaking that ran extremely well and with huge success in the main
because of Kevins organizational ability. Kevin is confident and at ease in
front of a large faculty and through his strong communication skills and
ability to differentiate material appropriately, is always received well and
with respect.
Perhaps one of Kevins biggest accomplishments since his arrival at GWA has
been the gatekeeper and a member of the two person team that devised the
schedule for 1,000 students in the both middle school and high school. It is
extremely hard to express the magnitude of the task he accomplished in light
of the many constraints he had to work within. The result was has been a

comprehensive, all-inclusive schedule and one of the best as a school we

could have hoped to work with. The undertaking demonstrated Kevins
abilities to balance numerous constraints, which included classroom space, a
variety of mandated student courses, staffing constraints and most
importantly, the integrity of the IBO. Kevins endeavor and commitment to the
process was outstanding.
Kevin has been actively involved in recruitment, including screening and
interviewing candidates of which he has an uncanny ability to identify good
candidates. As part of his role as an instructional leader Kevin is responsible
for the evaluation (formal and informal), goal setting guidance, and coaching
of 25 secondary teachers (out of 86). Kevins feedback is informed, relevant
and has improved teaching and learning within the division. Teachers respect
Kevin and seek his input both formally and informally.
As an Assistant Principal Kevin runs the whole school assemblies as well as
monitoring student behavior which has resulted in Kevin creating and
instituting a new positive behavior model in conjunction with consistent
consequences within GWAs behavior guidelines. The system has proven to be
an effective management system the division has benefitted from across the
board.
It is hard for me to convey the many hours Kevin has worked and the positive
impact Kevin has had upon the Secondary Division over the three years I have
worked with him. I trust Kevin implicitly and find his level of professionalism
and integrity of the highest order. As the leader of the division I appreciate his
opinions and insights, he always puts students first yet understands the need
to be pragmatic when required. I have appreciated his can do attitude and his
excellent his excellent follow through on all tasks undertaken and know when
necessary, Kevin can have the difficult conversation.
As Secondary Principal of a big developing school, I feel extremely fortunate
to have had an assistant principal of Kevins personality and ability on my
immediate leadership team. Kevin is an extremely good Assistant Principal.
Kevin is a real asset to any school fortunate enough to give him his first
opportunity as a Principal. Kevin is at a point in his career where having
served three Principals extremely well, is ready for the role of which I believe
he is extremely well prepared for. Its time for Kevin Thomas to be Principal.
Yours Sincerely,
Andy Roberts
