Sheeran, 33, is a huge Ipswich Town fan and acquired a minority stake in his boyhood club in the summer. He was in attendance at Portman Road to watch Sunday's 1-1 draw. The match was Amorim's first match at the helm since joining United from Sporting Lisbon. He looked less than impressed when Sheeran walked over and interacted with Jamie Redknapp while he was speaking post-match live on Sky Sports. The incident sparked anger amongst United fans online, with some even branding the popstar "disrespectful". Sheeran has now explained himself, writing in a post on his Instagram story: "Apologies if I offended Amorim yesterday, didn't realise he was actually being interviewed at the time, was popping to say hi and bye to Jamie. "Obz feel a bit of a ******* but life goes on. Great game though, congrats to all involved x". Amorim's first game at the helm was the big talking point of the weekend and the subject of plenty of coverage in the build-up to Sunday's match in Suffolk. The former Sporting Lisbon chief revealed in his written press conference that he had spoken with the media more in a week than he had during his four years in Portugal. He also outlined that he would asking the club to limit any requests moving forward to give him more time to work on coaching the team. I just want to work with my players. Nothing more," Amorim said. Reflecting on the match more generally, he said: "I think my players were thinking too much. We lost some balls without pressure. But they really, really tried and they want this. "It's a tough league. You learn that in the first moment. My players were thinking too much in the game. You can feel it. Not just on the ball but where they are supposed to be. And that is hard. It's just two days with the team, so it's really hard. I think we needed more physicality in the first half. "It's a tough match, we lost some balls without pressure. You have to control the ball and the tempo of the game. They didn't do it but they really tried. They are really trying and they want this. We have to try to from the first moment, we have to address the new idea and try to be better next year at the same stage."
