Emergency services were called to Spellow Lane in the Walton area of Liverpool on Tuesday evening and there are now several police cars and vans at the scene. It is understood that they were called to an address on the road at 6.10pm following reports of a concern for safety. Merseyside Police have said that officers and paramedics went to a property on Spellow Lane and a man, aged 65, was taken to hospital but he died shortly afterwards. The force added that a 52-year-old man from Toxteth has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being interviewed by detectives. Forensic officers have also been pictured entering into a block of flats on the road A police spokesperson said: âA man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following an incident at an address in Walton this evening (Tuesday, 26 November). Ambulance and police attended at the property and a 65-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later. Another man, aged 52 years, from Toxteth was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and has been taken to a police station, where he will be interviewed by detectives. "An investigation is underway into the death which is currently being treated as unexplained. Crime scene investigators will be carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are underway." Forensic officers entering a property on Spellow Lane Detective Chief Inspector Alyson Keenan, said: "The investigation is in its early stages and we are appealing to anyone who may have information which could assist us to come forward. If you have any information that could help us please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111." Spellow Lane is currently blocked off and a cordon is in place near to the junction with Goodison Road. A police officer at the scene earlier said it was a "serious incident" but could not give further details at that stage. Residents have been told not to leave their flats ( Image: Liverpool Echo) The cordon stretches between Salop Chapel and Spellow Lane flats where the focus of the police presence is based. Three ambulances were also seen at the location earlier but have now left. Photos show the police scene near to Goodison Park in Everton while residents have also been standing in the street questioning police about what has happened.
