連続テレビ小説第111作。福岡・神戸・大阪を舞台に、「どんな困難も明るくたくましく乗り越える」平成ギャル、米田結（よねだ・ゆい）が栄養士となり、現代人が抱える問題を「食の知識とコミュ力」で解決しながら、縁・人・時代をむすんでいく青春物語。

2004年、福岡・糸島。高校に進学した米田結（橋本環奈）は、伝説のギャルだった姉、歩が立ち上げたギャルサークル「博多ギャル連合（ハギャレン）」と交流。歩（仲里依紗）への反感から最初は毛嫌いしていたが、6歳の時に家族と暮らしていた神戸で経験した大震災でさまざまなものをいっぺんに失ったトラウマから何事にも前向きになれなかった自分にとって、彼女たちの生き方が刺激となり、親交を深めていった。そんななか、歩が久しぶりに帰省し、ハギャレンを全否定して結と衝突する。歩は、ギャルになったのは自分のためでなく、中学時代に阪神大震災で亡くなった親友、真紀の夢を代わりに追っていただけだと打ち明け、自分はニセモノだと卑下。結はギャルたちの居場所を作った歩を「ニセモノなんかやない」とたたえて、長かった姉妹のわだかまりが解けた。

地元の野球の強豪校でエースとして活躍していた翔也（佐野勇斗）と知り合い、互いに好意を抱いた結だったが、甲子園出場の夢を叶えるまでは野球に集中したいという翔也の気持ちを尊重し、デートを我慢。栄養について独学し、食事に関するアドバイスをこまめに送って支えた。結はその活動を通して、大阪の実業団野球チームに入団する翔也を今後も栄養管理の面で支えたいと思うようになった。

2007年、高校を卒業した結は、震災から復興を遂げた神戸の街に12年ぶりに戻り、理髪店を再開した両親とともに新しい生活を始めた。栄養専門学校でクラスメイトと切磋琢磨しながら学ぶ結は、商店街の防災訓練では炊き出し隊長として活躍。街にはかつての活気が戻っていたが、真紀の父で靴職人の渡辺孝雄（緒形直人）だけは、娘の死にとらわれ生きる気力を失ったままだった。古着バイヤーの歩は、孝雄のつらさを少しでもやわらげたいとの思いから中古靴を仕入れて孝雄にカスタムしてもらい販売するアイデアを思いついて持ちかけるが、なかなか受け入れてもらえなかった。
