What color noise is best for sleep?
White noise for sleeping is perhaps the most popular choice of all noise colors, but it needn’t be the only color on your bedtime soundtrack. Explore different variations of white noise to see how each influences your sleep quality and quantity, with some to try including…
White noise: The tried-and-true classic, white noise for sleeping is popular for good reason! White noise creates a steady, consistent and even sound that makes it easy to fall asleep and stay asleep. Just like white light contains all the colors of the color spectrum, white noise contains all the frequencies of the audio spectrum, present in perfectly equal amounts.
Pink noise: Similar to white noise, all audible frequencies are also present in pink noise, though they aren’t presented in equal measure. Pink noise contains more low sound waves than high, with what many consider a deeper, more relaxing sound than white noise. If you find white noise to sound more like static than a gentle air conditioner hum, try pink and see what you think!
Green noise: Green noise is the happy medium of sound for many sleepers, rich in mid-range sound frequencies. The highs and lows are there, but aren’t as pronounced as the middle of the spectrum.
Brown noise: Sleepers best lulled to dreamland by a deep, consistent rumbling sound may find brown noise for sleep quite soothing. Brown noise is sometimes referred to as red noise, and has more bass than pink or white noise. If you currently listen to rain sounds to fall asleep and prefer the sound of heavy rain to a gentle drizzle, give brown noise a try for similar energy.
