    PV Heating and Air
A/C Repair & HVAC Contractors in Atlanta
    Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsOctober 24, 2016
There are two things I have come to love as a home owner. The first is Houzz - I designed almost our entire home using this site (and gardenweb before the merge). The second is a reliable contractor who cares about doing the job well and taking care of their customers. We have found, in the past 4 years since we began this process, four contractors that I would use again, two that I would recommend to friends and family, and precisely ONE that we would never consider replacing under any circumstances. That one is PV Heating and Air. We are actually about to finish our basement and refused two great quotes because they wouldn't allow us to use PV. If I have an HVAC project any time between now and when I die, I wouldn't even consider hiring anyone else. A bit of background: My wife and I decided to build a very energy efficient house with spray foam insulation and geothermal heating and cooling back in 2012. We made the mistake of trusting the wrong company. I'll leave it at that. For those familiar, I'm sure you'll understand that we had serious considerations with a project like ours related to humidity, clean air intake (important in a tightly sealed home), and make-up air for our 1100CFM range hood... Suffice it to say we had a very technically challenging project with a complex layout to boot. Well, the first summer, we not only had humidity greater than 65% the entire season, but we also had energy bills through the roof. it turns out our initial contractor had taken a "let's see if this works" approach. One full year, and THIRTY visits later, I was worried we had a lemon of a system, and would have to start over. I wish I were kidding when I say that we literally had the VP of Bosch North America in our attic with their most senior technician because we initially thought the equipment was malfunctioning. When we determined that that was not the issue, and looking for a quick fix, we hired another company on the recommendation of a neighbor, and they said all we needed was a dehumidfier. It fixed nothing. They then recommended a third HVAC unit, and we showed them the door. After 30 months of truly uncomfortable conditions and astronomical bills, we hired a man with a PhD in building science...really. He came in, identified some flaws in our system, and recommended PV to do the work. That recommendation was worth triple his fee. We were skeptical at first since we'd been burned so many times, but when PV came in, they knew just what to do. First of all, we discovered that they could have done the assessment that the PhD did, but that's not the point. The point is that they took his assessment, confirmed it on their own, identified a few more potential issues, and got to work. Within hours, things were better, within a week they were almost perfect (we were getting into fall), and with a few small tweaks the following hot season, our HVAC system is now operating to absolute perfection. What I almost forgot is that along the way, they identified ways to improve airflow, exhaust from the bathrooms and the kitchen, and they even painted our outside exhausts (that they did not install) so that everything would look perfect. By this point, my wife bakes her famous cookies for them whenever we have a tune up scheduled, and I'm pretty sure she wants to name our first child after this company. I am sure this review sounds like an exaggeration, but if you read my posts on this site, you will see that not only am I a stickler for detail, but I am also extremely critical (to a fault) of contractors who aren't impossibly perfect... (I'm working on it). I've even posted about this HVAC nightmare on the site. However, even with my idiosyncrasies and particular nature, PV met and exceeded my expectations more than any company I have ever interacted with in my lifetime. That about says it all. If anyone has questions and Houzz has a mechanism for it, please feel free to contact me for any further details. To sum up, we have a complex house with a complex system that wasn't performing. Now it is perfect, and I wish we had saved tens of thousands of dollars by going with PV the first time around.

Tim is very knowledgeable about energy efficiency and everything related. Perhaps more importantly, he knows how to communicate that knowledge to a layman and he is patient, kind, and consistent in his methods. On more than one occasion Tim has helped break down a relatively complex issue so that I could understand and make decisions. Basically, his a very likable guy who is an expert in his field.

These guys did a great job, starting with honest, accurate estimate. The Crew that did the cleaning were friendly and professional, and explained what they were doing along the way, and showed me all the dust they got out of my vents when they were done. They also cleaned up all the dirt from my floor .you couldn't even tell they had been there, except for the clean smell in my house. Amazing company!

Needing a furnace repair quickly in a rental property during a very cold snap in November 2013 I called Shumate. They were able to come out the same day and unfortunately the furnace was beyond repair. The engineer that I met with gave me several different replacement options and helped with financing. With financing approval they installed the furnace within five days of the initial meeting. I will now use Shumate for all of my HVAC needs at my rental properties.

    The Mercantile
A/C Repair & HVAC Contractors in Atlanta
    Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 18, 2014
Since its inception, The Mercantile has become the heart of design in Buckhead in Atlanta, GA. Started to fulfill a lifelong dream, Barbara Heath has taken this beautiful retail store and guided it to become one of the "go-to" locations in Atlanta's shopping mecca, be it for high-coveted gifts, capsule jewelry collections, high-end furniture, antiques, art, books and/or full interior design services offered by seasoned staff designers who have that illusive, innate quality known as "the eye." Not every has it. Not everyone can aspire to it. Not everyone can develop it. But Barbara Heath, she has IT in droves. Follow her most recent published projects, visit her store, tour her show houses, or better yet, contact her or one of her associates for a design consultation, and you will understand what it is like to work with such talent. You cannot put a foot wrong with this crowd.
