There are numerous fire pit accessories out there choose from. Some may be more necessary than others, such as a propane regulator or hose, but you shouldn’t overlook the benefits of extras or upgrades like fire pit glass, fire pit covers and grates.

Why do I need a propane regulator?

If you have a propane-powered fire pit, you’ll want a propane regulator to control how much propane flows through the fuel line. The regulator will help prevent any accidents or explosions that could result from an unregulated propane flow or gas buildup. Before you rush to drop one in your cart, however, be sure you’re aware of the type and size you need.

What is fire glass used for?

You can add some artistic flair and color to your fire pit with fire glass. Most fire glass comes in a tumbled finish, but you may also be able to find reflective or smooth finishes. These small, tempered glass shards radiate heat extremely well. This means you can easily warm up next to your fire on a chilly night with a smile on your face as you reminisce about how much energy you’re conserving and how many dollars you’re saving.

You can use fire pit glass with both propane and natural gas fire pits. Just be sure your burner pan has the correct connection kit for the type of fuel you’re using. It’s also important to note that fire glass is designed to be used with heat and fire — regular glass shards are not a safe substitute.

Are fire pit covers worth buying?

Yes. A fire pit cover is a worthwhile investment: it will protect your fire pit from rain, snow and other inclement weather. Plus, it will deter bugs and other pests from building their homes on or inside your fire pit. They can also help reduce the accumulation of dust, dirt and debris. This added layer of protection will help extend your fire pit’s life.

Are there other fire pit accessories I should consider?

If you’re interesting in cooking up some goodies, a fire pit grate lets your pit double up as a grill. It’s recommended you not cook the food directly on the grate, as drippings could collect and dirty your ceramic logs or fire glass below. Instead, use a pan or pot to keep things tidy and tasty.

You may also want to consider adding a fire pit screen. These are especially handy if you or your guests have small children. These protective screens will keep curious kids at a safe distance but still allow them to enjoy the heat, brilliance and colors of the fire.
