This under stairs fir wine cellar has the capacity of 440 bottles and is located just under the stairway. The custom glass door gives this small space the impression of a large wine cellar from the adjacent dining room. Various types of racking were custom designed to accommodate different wine bottle sizes. You can find individual single deep racking, horizontal display, open bottle bins, X-bins and case storage. This photo depicts the aluminum framing of the modern door installed by Wine Cellar Specialists for a contemporary wine cellar under the stairs. It complemented the stair rails and the metal wine racks. The Ultra PEG wine racks used are double deep to maximize the storage capacity of the room. To keep the wines safe for many years to come, they installed one of our wine cooling units on the left wall. Active wine cellars are highly insulated and need to be properly constructed. They require specialized wine cellar conditioning and cooling systems to maintain the desired temperature and humidity. In a very dry climate, it may be necessary to actively humidify the air if you live in Palm Springs or Indian Wells, CA, but in most areas this is not necessary. Passive wine cellars must be located in naturally cool and damp areas with minor seasonal and diurnal temperature variations—for example, a basement in a temperate climate. Installing wall stone on the inside and outside of a wine room or cellar helps you in achieving a true passive cellars that will cost you nothing to operate and are not affected by power outages if you live in places like the midwest or even sometime the east coast of the US.
