The key to creating a desirable bedroom which inspires a blissful night’s sleep was not just down to the bed and giant custom designed headboard, it came with all the added extras. The over bed storage, all in white was created to reflect our client’s taste and to suit her individual requirement for additional space. We incorporated spotlights and adjustable lamps within the storage space to provide her with greater flexibility. A druzy quartz knobs with gem-like shine were handpicked by our client for a natural finishing touch.

An over the top room for this idea house! The room began with the fabric for the duvet cover. The fabric's pattern was abstracted and interpreted for the ceiling detail. All hues of turquoise were used and pulled from the duvet fabric.

One of the stranger requests I have been given was to design a custom "double Queensized" bed. The client’s requested a special bed that would allow each to have their “own” bed and comforters, yet still be together… So we created a large platform bed with 2 queen mattresses inset into the platform, each on it’s own control for adjusting firmness. The master suite was enormous in size, so in order to make it more intimate, we installed a remote curtain that separates the sleeping quarters from the sitting area.

Excerpted from Washington Home & Design Magazine, Jan/Feb 2012 Full Potential Once ridiculed as “antipasto on the Potomac,” the Watergate complex designed by Italian architect Luigi Moretti has become one of Washington’s most respectable addresses. But its curvaceous 1960s architecture still poses design challenges for residents seeking to transform their outdated apartments for contemporary living. Inside, the living area now extends from the terrace door to the kitchen and an adjoining nook for watching TV. The rear wall of the kitchen isn’t tiled or painted, but covered in boards made of recycled wood fiber, fly ash and cement. A row of fir cabinets stands out against the gray panels and white-lacquered drawers under the Corian countertops add more contrast. “I now enjoy cooking so much more,” says the homeowner. “The previous kitchen had very little counter space and storage, and very little connection to the rest of the apartment.” “A neutral color scheme allows sculptural objects, in this case iconic furniture, and artwork to stand out,” says Santalla. “An element of contrast, such as a tone or a texture, adds richness to the palette.” In the master bedroom, Santalla designed the bed frame with attached nightstands and upholstered the adjacent wall to create an oversized headboard. He created a television stand on the adjacent wall that allows the screen to swivel so it can be viewed from the bed or terrace. Of all the renovation challenges facing the couple, one of the most problematic was deciding what to do with the original parquet floors in the living space. Santalla came up with the idea of staining the existing wood and extending the same dark tone to the terrace floor. “Now the indoor and outdoor parts of the apartment are integrated to create an almost seamless space,” says the homeowner. “The design succeeds in realizing the promise of what the Watergate can be.” Project completed in collaboration with Treacy & Eagleburger. For our client's Master Bedroom and Ensuite we wanted to create a comfortable yet elegant retreat. A stylish palette of tones of greys, powder blues and ivory in luxurious fabrics and finishes. Subtle detailing in the tufted headboard with nail head trim, mother of pearl buttons on the drapery pleats and crystal knobs on the custom built-in storage unit enhance the sophistication and elegance of the space. The wall to wall cabinetry was custom designed and built to house our client’s accessories, clothing and shoe collection. Customized details include felt lined jewellery drawers, adjustable dividers for purses and a vanity area for applying make-up. The mark of elegance and relaxation are repeated in the Master Ensuite. A soft, neutral palette of greys and white retains the classic feel of the home and leaves way for the gorgeous marble floors to stand out. Floor to ceiling pleated sheers frame the free-standing claw foot tub allowing for natural light to shine through and provide the perfect back drop to the sparkling glass chandelier. His and her sinks are situated next to the spacious glass shower enclosure providing optimum storage.
