What does Fontfabric do?

Contrary to popular searches on Google, Fontfabric does not produce fabrics of any kind.

But we have been, however, developing retail and custom fonts for designers and brands from all around the world for over 12 years now. Is Fontfabric free?

Yes and no. While Fontfabric does offer many iconic fonts for free download, just some Fontfabric fonts are free for commercial use. Double-check the respective product EULA file for clarification on your desired font.

How do I install Fontfabric fonts?

Depending on your needs, there are four types of fonts you can install from our website: learn how to install retail, free, trial, and demo.

The process is quite straightforward. Once you place your order and receive all font files you’ll proceed to install your fonts as usual.

Desktop fonts installation for Windows:

1. – Open the Control Panel by using the Search bar in the Start menu and choose “Fonts”
2. – Open the folder containing your Free fonts
3. – Select the font files you want to install.
4. – Drag them to “Fonts” and drop them anywhere

Desktop fonts installation for macOS:

1. – Go ahead and open Finder > Applications > Font Book.
2. – Open the folder containing your Free fonts.
3. – Select the font files you want to install.
4. – Drag the font files to Font Book and drop them on top of the font list.

Is it OK to use Fontfabric fonts in logos?

Yes. You can use some free, retail, and demo Fontfabric fonts in logos for personal and commercial use, but not each and all Fontfabric font products. Trial fonts are to be used in logos for personal use only.

What are OpenType features?

OpenType features are helpful extras in a font like ligatures, contextual alternates, stylistic sets, tabular figures, oldstyle figures, small caps, and more.

Please refer to the individual font pages on our website to browse the list of OpenType features included in the Info tab. Also, make sure to check which software on your computer, tablet, and smartphone support work with OpenType features.

How do I access OpenType features in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign?

Adobe Illustrator: Choose Window > Type > OpenType to open the OpenType panel.

Photoshop: First, open your character panel, head to Type > Panels > Character Panel. From there you can make your selection.

InDesign: Similar to Adobe Illustrator, you need to click on Window > Type > Opentype.

What languages do your fonts support?

Fontfabric Fonts (Software) offer wide language support.

Do I need to credit you when I use your fonts in my designs?

No, but we’re very excited to see your designs.

Can I download your fonts on mobile devices and tablets?

Yes, you can download OTF and TTF Fontfabric Fonts (Software) files on your smartphone and tablet.

However, depending on your mobile device you will need to take additional steps to work with custom third-party fonts.

What’s the difference between trial, demo, and free fonts?

On our website, we offer several ways to put both retail and free fonts into use.

Retail Fontfabric Fonts (Software) have a trial version available which includes all font styles with a minor decrease in features and glyphs. All trial fonts are for personal use only.

Some font styles in our retail typefaces might be published as demo fonts which you can use for both personal and commercial purposes. Keep in mind the demo fonts come with a decreased number of features and glyphs.

You will also find free versions of separate font styles in our retail typefaces and completely free font families. All free fonts on our website can be used for both personal and commercial purposes.

Can I modify Fontfabric fonts?

⃠ You may not modify, adapt, translate, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or create derivative works based on our fonts without prior written consent from Fontfabric. That means to edit/modify the Fontfabric Fonts (Software) files themselves in font editors/software/programs like FontLab Studio, Fontographer, Font Creator, TypeTool, BitFonter, Glyphs, FontStruct, RoboFont, etc.

✓ You may import characters from the fonts as graphical objects into a drawing program (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.) and modify such graphical objects.

I can't find a special glyph, letter, or sign in your font.‎

Start by verifying whether our font supports the glyph you’re looking for by checking the Glyph Map tab on the font’s page. Each glyph comes with a Unicode which you can see by hovering on the individual glyphs.

Next, go to your editing software and search for font-related panels which allow you to switch between available glyphs, letters, and signs. If the editing software you’re using doesn’t provide such features you won’t be able to access the full glyph set of our fonts.

Font doesn’t match what I saw on your website.

Most often users see the alternate characters of a font displayed in their editing software instead of the default ones and end up confused.

Please verify all font features are toggled off so only the default characters of any Fontfabric Fonts (Software) are displayed.

On our website, we aim to include images of Fontfabric Fonts (Software) using both default and alternate characters for optimal inspiration.

Why can’t I see my Fontfabric fonts anywhere on my computer?

Start by confirming you’ve installed your Fontfabric fonts properly. If you’re still not seeing them in your respective Font manager go ahead and give your computer a good old restart.

Please check your font manager again in case the font has not been placed alphabetically. You might be experiencing issues because there are too many fonts in your system already.

However, we are aware of various operating system-specific issues that affect users’ font files. Please refer to online Windows and MacOS forums for specialized answers, or drop us a line at [email protected] and we will attempt to find a solution that works for you.

You get a “Font is not valid” message on Windows and can’t add your font to my Fonts folder. How can you fix this?

Try the following troubleshooting steps:

1. Click on the Start and then Settings;
2. Click on System and select App and Features on the left pane;
3. Now click on Manage optional features on top of the right pane;
4. Scroll and select the desired font.

What is an EULA?

EULA stands for End-User License Agreement. In it, you’ll find the conditions you agree to when purchasing a paid font or downloading a free one. This agreement states all types of Fontfabric Licenses offered, along with any rules and limits you, as the Licensee (and your client when working for hire), are bound to follow.

There are two types of Fontfabric Licenses that we offer:

1. Standard End-User License: issued with individual font purchases covering the most popular uses (Desktop, Webfont, App, ePub, etc.)

2. Custom End-User License: tailored to specific client needs and issued after a professional consultation and negotiations

What happens when you update one of your fonts?

Whenever we update our fonts you’ll be able to download the latest editions for free. They should be accessible from your profile on our website.

Is it OK to use your free fonts for designs, GIFs, and animations on social media?

Yes, as long as the designs are static. If you’re planning on using the fonts in videos you’ll need a Broadcasting license.

Can I embed your retail fonts in editable documents (Powerpoint, .pdf, etc.)?

Most commonly, you are not allowed to embed retail fonts in editable documents. By doing so you provide any third parties with the font, thus violating rights stated in the FF EULA.

You are allowed to send editable embedded documents only if the documents are created for in-house use or if they are sent to third parties working on behalf of you in accordance with our Fontfabric Commercial EULA For Retail Fonts.

You can send embedded documents to any other third parties only in a secure read-only non-editable format such as .pdf that doesn’t allow the extraction of the embedded font files.

You should know that the Fontfabric Commercial EULA For Free Fonts permits a Licensee to embed Fontfabric Fonts (Software) in any document you send to third parties. Such documents may be viewed, printed, and edited by the recipients.

Can I use a WOFF converter on Fontfabric fonts that don’t come with webfont files?

No, this is strictly prohibited.

Can I register a logo created with your fonts?

Yes.

Can I create products to sell with your fonts?

As long as these products include only static designs you’ve made and you don’t let your clients design with the fonts themselves.

How do I install desktop fonts on my Windows PC or Mac?

The process is quite straightforward. Once you place your order and receive all font files you’ll proceed to install your fonts as usual.

How do I use Fontfabric Web fonts?

Step 1: Upload the Font Files to your Site/Server

Where you do so is up to you, but we recommend either in the same folder as your .css file or perhaps in a folder titled ‘fonts’ and that folder should be in the same location as your .css file. Keeping these files close to your .css file makes it easier to map to them when you edit the CSS.

Step 2: Add the @font-face to Your CSS

Next, open up your CSS file. For every style you want to add, you’re going to create a separate @font-face selector in the CSS file. What this does is create the name of your font within the CSS file, so that when you use this font, it will know where to find the font files and allow your users’ browsers to load them and display them. Put the @font-face selectors at the top of the CSS file before any other CSS.

To declare the @font-face selector, you’ll specify the name of the family, the URLs of all of the different font files, and the weights and styles.

Step 3: Use the Font throughout your CSS

Now, you can simply use these fonts in any of your other CSS selectors.

How do I access OpenType features in Web fonts?

OpenType Features are available to use on the web via specific properties and low-level control properties — font-feature-settings. Learn how to use OpenType font features in CSS.

Style Linking

Style linking is a useful feature when working with a font family that has the four standard styles of Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic. When a family is style-linked, we can refer to just one font name, “FamilyName”, instead of each individual font style like “FamilyNameBoldItalic”.

Can I test your fonts before I buy them?

Yes! We’ve created a special Font Tester located in each font’s individual page.

What is a Font Tester?

It’s a tailored mini-platform by font designers for you. It offers a variety of features to test our fonts with.

Other ways to test our fonts include Demo and Trial Fonts.

How do I use the Font Tester?

Simply navigate to your desired font’s individual page on our website and click on the tab Font Tester.

How do I change pangrams in the Font Tester?

Click on the Pangrams tab and choose from 12 Latin-script options from the dropdown menu.

How do I access localization in Font Tester?

Type in some characters in your desired language, highlight your text and choose different localization options from the Localizations dropdown menu.

Can I edit my own text in the Font Tester?

Yes. Simply highlight the existing text in the text field and start typing.

Can I change subfamilies in the Font Tester?

Absolutely, you’ll find a list of subfamilies (if any exist for the chosen font) right above Sentences.

How do I change font styles in the Font Tester?

Switch between font styles through the dropdown menu located right under Sentences.

What type of features can I see in the Font Tester?

Depending on the font you’re testing you’ll find a handy Features dropdown menu corresponding to the OT features supported by the specific font.

Can I change size, spacing and hight in the Font Tester?

Yes, use the Size,Spacing, and sliders to manipulate your text.

Is there a dark mode in the Font Tester?

Yes, use the Black/White icon to switch between light and dark mode.

Can I test a font outside of the Font Tester?

Sure, other ways to test our fonts include downloading free, demo, and trial fonts from our website.

What is a Trial font?

A trial font is our way of letting you test and evaluate our products. A trial font is not a free font and cannot be used for commercial projects. A trial font comes with a reduced number of glyphs and features.

What does a Trial font include?

All trial fonts by Fontfabric include a reduced number of glyphs and features but offer what’s essential for testing and evaluation so you can get a better feel of the product.

How do I download and install a Trial font?

Get your Trial font by clicking on the Download for free button found on all individual font pages on our website. Enter your email address to start downloading a .zip file containing free fonts, trial fonts, an installation guide, and EULAs.

Our Non-commercial EULA for Trial Fonts restricts you from:

⃠ creating products with the trial fonts for commercial use or personal gain. Products created with the trial fonts are for testing and evaluation purposes only.

⃠ embedding the fonts in any products or web pages that are accessible publicly or by any third party without prior written consent from Fontfanbric.

⃠ embedding the trial fonts into documents or into web pages with a @font-face declaration for commercial purposes.

⃠ uploading trial fonts in third parties websites or allow third parties to create new documents or designs with embedded trial fonts

⃠ providing the trial fonts to a producer, publisher, or another agent working on behalf.

Can I use Trial fonts for commercial purposes?

No, trial fonts can be used in personal projects only. Our free fonts, however, are OK to use for commercial purposes.

How much time do I have to test the Trial font?

You can use our trial fonts for as long as you need or until the Non-commercial EULA for Trial Fonts is terminated.

The cost of a custom font depends on the project entirely.

I’d like to receive a price offer for a Custom font. What information should I send you?

Start by introducing the project, tell us what exactly can we help you with (font development, font customization, font licensing, etc.), and try to best describe the scope of the custom font (usage, inspiration, concept, deadline, etc.)

We might need to ask you additional questions before we send you a price offer.

I've customized one of your retail fonts. Can I get exclusive rights to it?

Reverse engineering font files is strictly prohibited.

However, if you’d like to have some modifications done on our retail fonts, you should contact us. Please illustrate the desired changes in a vector graphics file and attach it to your email so we can start discussing possible directions and details regarding your license.

Do you need to purchase anything additional when downloading free fonts or are your agreeing to the EULA automatically?

You don’t need to purchase anything when choosing to use our free fonts. By downloading any of our free fonts you automatically agree to our Free Fonts EULA included in your package.

I’m planning to release some digital downloads. Would it be OK to include links to your free fonts for the buyers to download on their end and edit templates in Photoshop, etc.?

Yes. Please only include links leading to the free fonts on the Fontfabric website.

Can I send your free fonts to clients?

It’s best to send your clients a link to the free font on our website to download themselves.

Can I use your free fonts for print on demand, such as T-shirts, stickers, etc.?

Yes.

Are fonts intellectual property?

Yes. Like art, music, or literary works, fonts are designed by real people and are protected by certain intellectual property rights. Beyond the design itself, fonts are software products, engineered with features and flexibility that enable good design and usability.

Does copyright law protect typefaces and fonts?

Generally, copyright law in the U.S. does not protect typefaces. It protects only the font software, not the artistic design of the typeface. In contrast, Germany recognized in 1981 that typeface designs can be protected by copyright as original works. England also allows typeface designs to be protected by copyright (since 1989).

If I copyright and/or trademark my logos, using your font, would that violate the copyright license agreement?

No, it wouldn’t violate the copyright license agreement.

If I copyright and/or trademark my logo, using your font, would I be required to transfer any ownership of my mark to your company?

No.

Does trademark law protect typefaces?

Trademark law protects only the name of a typeface, but not the typeface design.
