Serena Maria Daniels is a Chicana journalist and the city editor for Eater Detroit. A recovering daily newspaper reporter with nearly 20 years experience, she is also the founder and Chingona-in-Chief of Tostada Magazine, which explores the intersection of food, culture, identity, and community, and has been featured in the Washington Post, NPR’s Here and Now, and other local and national publications. Born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in the Pacific Northwest and San Fernando Valley with a degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge, she is a former staff writer for the Detroit News, Chicago Tribune, and the Orange County Register. Serena’s favorite tacos come from back home, she does not believe in ketchup on hot dogs, and she prefers her pizzas square.
