Acronym Glossary

Acronyms are often used by public and private agencies as timesaving, shorthand ways to communicate lengthy titles or basic concepts. This glossary provides a quick reference to the terms, acronyms and abbreviations commonly used by this Department.

    Any of various forms required in preparation of the Department's budget request to show the details of that request.

  • BAA

    Business associate agreement

  • BAC

    Blood alcohol content.
  • BadgerCare Plus

    A health care program which helps low-income children, pregnant people, and adults in Wisconsin.

  • BadgerCare Plus Emergency Services

    A program for people age 0-64 who have a medical emergency but can't get Medicaid or BadgerCare Plus because of their citizenship or immigration status.

    Bureau of Aging and Disability Resources in the Division of Public Health.

    Bureau of Benefits Policy in the Division of Medicaid Services.

    Base County Allocation

  • BCD

    Bureau of Communicable Diseases

  • BCFS

    Bureau of Community Forensic Services

    Bureau of Community Health Promotion in the Division of Public Health.
  • BCPP

    Bureau of Clinical Policy and Pharmacy in the Division of Medicaid Services.

  • BCS

    Bureau of Children's Services in the Division of Medicaid Services.

  • BEEP

    Bureau of Eligibility and Enrollment Policy in the Division of Medicaid Services.

  • Benefit Specialist, Disability (DBS)

    A person in each Aging and Disability Resource Center who helps adults under age 60 years obtain and keep Medicare, Medical Assistance and other human services program benefits.
  • Benefit Specialist, Elderly (EBS)

    A person in each county, usually in the county aging office, who helps elderly persons obtain and keep Medicare, Medical Assistance and other human services program benefits.

    Behavioral Health Integrated Care

  • BHR

    Bureau of Human Resources located in the Division of Enterprise Services but works through the Department of Administration.

    Background Information Disclosure
  • Birth to 3

    A program of early intervention services for children from birth through age 2 with disabilities, and for their families. Administered by DLTC and county administrative agencies in accordance with ch. HFS 90 Adm. Codes.

  • Block Grants

    Federal grants to aid states. DHS regularly receives 6 different ones: Social Services, Community Services, Maternal and Child Health, Preventive Health and Health Services, Substance Abuse, and Mental Health. Departments make proposals to use these grants, and receive input from the public. The Wisconsin legislature reviews everything and final applications are submitted to the federal government for the next year's grants.

    The Wisconsin Behavioral Risk Factor Survey (BRFS) is a telephone survey of state residents ages 18 and older.
  • BRS

    Bureau of Rate Setting in the Division of Medicaid Services.

  • BSM

    Bureau of Systems Management in the Division of Medicaid Services.

  • Budget Mandate

    A directive from the Legislature to a state agency transmitted through a budget act, requiring the agency to do something by a certain date, e.g., carry out a study and submit a report with recommendations.
