Call The Midwife fans concerned as beloved character 'disappears' from show - and demand BBC 'sacks the writers' amid 'absurdly woke' new storylines

Call The Midwife fans were left concerned after a beloved character 'disappeared' from the classic BBC show.

Outraged viewers have also demanded that the BBC's writers be' sacked' over their 'absurdly woke' new storylines.

After the latest episode of the BBC One show, which took viewers back to the 1970s, Trixie Aylward (Helen George) was seen looking after a pregnant single woman who had been released from Linchmere Mental Hospital.

But, in another storyline, Nurse Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) continued to develop their friendship as they volunteered at a homeless shelter.

Despite the riveting plot of the episode, viewers could not help but feel concerned as Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack) was noticeably absent from Sunday's episode.

Her disappearance sparked fears that she may have quit her iconic role as a dedicated midwife at Nonnatus House.

This is despite him still being married to Lucille Anderson (Leonie Elliott), who is currently in Jamaica.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one penned: 'This show really is getting absurd. Single mothers and a gay man living with nuns, a married black man dating a posh girl, this would never have happened!!! Get back to good story telling and sack your woke writers immediately.'

'What were the beliefs on dating a married man in the 70's? I know Sister Julienne wont be happy if Rosalind is found out. I know her & Cyril aren't officially dating yet, but they're getting closer'.

'I think Cyril and Rosalind could be cute together but I think Cyril needs to divorce first #CallTheMidwife.'

'Cyril wouldn't do this to Lucille and I hate this storyline.'

'Am I the only person who thinks the writing and pace of #callthemidwife has changed and not for the better? Something is so off. I’m watching the older series too & it was so much better. Less jumpy the flow was better, scripting better.'

Meanwhile others hailed the plot as they looked forward to Trixie's storyline.
