New York State Healthy Neighborhoods Program

Cayuga County Healthy Neighborhoods Program (HNP) is a grant funded by the New York State Department of Health that works to reduce risks within homes related to fire and injury, asthma, lead poisoning, and indoor air concerns. Targeted areas include the City of Auburn, the Towns of Conquest, Mentz, Montezuma, Throop and the Village of Port Byron.

The Cayuga County Health Department partners with the Auburn fire department to conduct in-home assessments at NO-COST to ensure individuals are living in a healthy environment. These in-home assessments will be at the owner and/or tenant's discretion. Upon evaluation of the living environment, residents may be provided with information, educational materials, and/or supplies to help create a healthier living area as well as referrals to partnering agencies. Re-visits will be made to those homes in which safety products are provided.

Staff will be canvassing targeted areas throughout the course of the year to conduct these in-home assessments.
