Hawk attacking flock

Depending where you live, I advise against deer netting. It's going to get bogged down by leaves, twigs and/or snow. The tensile strength isn't that great either. Personally I prefer 2" netting but the size you get is up to you. Pinnon Hatch Farms had good info regarding setting up netting in a successful way. You can get smaller size pieces of their netting at their eBay store, if you choose to buy their netting but need a smaller size. Pinnonhatch.com

Two days in a row I've lost a hen to what we're fairly certain is a hawk. We've not seen the predator, but our dogs are good at keeping anything on the ground away. Until I can get any netting/wire up (it's a big area with trees, so it isn't something quick and easy to do) how can I scare off the hawks? I'll be getting reflective ribbon tomorrow, so what else could work? I'm thinking of putting big bright things outside (like a shirt or ball or some sort of bug bright toy). I would like to make a scarecrow too, but I need to have something I can do quickly before I leave for work in the morning, and I don't have anything to make a scarecrow right now.

I do have a rooster too, and the hawk got some of his tail so I know my big tough boy is doing his best.

Literally any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you all in advance <3
I have chicken wire covering the whole top of my pen.
Hawks are clever and will kill them all if you don’t protect them.

I commented about crows but want to add my thoughts on scarecrows. I've had hawks swoop down on ducks and chickens right in front of me and my husband as we were moving around. I'm not too sure a scarecrow would be that helpful.
Crows question their PURPOSE and OUR motives for putting scarecrow out. Crows avoid they yard where I keep one

I lost my 4 hens the same way. When I get more I am considering a chicken look-a-like snare. Only way I can think of keeping mine safe.

What sort of treats and gifts do you leave them? I have a good community of crows around me and I'd like to encourage them to hang around and thank them for keeping the hawks in check.
They are not fussy, I put any meat scraps cooked or uncooked, even left overs that are getting old, old bread and the mice I catch around this place. Funny as I am replying to this post the crows came to check for treats.

Unfortunately I'd keep the chickens locked up until you get some deer netting put up, they will be back every single day if there is still access to more chickens. We have tons of hawks on our property and our run is completely covered in deer netting, I see hawks pull birds out of trees in my yard so I didn't have my birds in the run till I completely covered it. While I'm home I let them out of the run and into our chain fence backyard to free range in the grass for a couple hours each day, but only when I'm out there with them because of the hawks.

Luckily we do have a flock of crows that chase off hawks and that's usually when I know one is around because the crows start yelling and drive it out of a tree where it was prob watching my chickens from... Those crows are my friends and I hope they never leave!
The crow is your best friend for sure. I never thought of them as a chickens friend but they are

I give my Murder of Crows cut up fruit like Apples, Pears and Grapes. They also love any kind of nuts, Sunflower seeds and Cat kibble. What they really like shiny objects, they don't eat the objects they just bring them to their nest. I put their goodies out on a cookie pan, high enough so my Chickens can't help themselves. I usually put the pan on the well-house roof, along with a bowl of water....

They really are your friend and I’m so grateful to have as many as I do here. Pretty fun to watch them go after the hawks too- they’re dedicated creatures. I don’t let my birds out unless the crows are calling, but I’ve found that the hawks seem to think my black Sumatra is a crow herself which adds to the protection.
