My dogs hate CROWS and go berserk anytime they see one. Prior to the pullets disappearing the crows came around more but now they hide .My dogs are #1 when it comes to watching my chickens! You should feel the same way about the crow. Crows don't like us lol
This one I made about 7 yrs ago.It could sit and stand either one.Two days in a row I've lost a hen to what we're fairly certain is a hawk. We've not seen the predator, but our dogs are good at keeping anything on the ground away. Until I can get any netting/wire up (it's a big area with trees, so it isn't something quick and easy to do) how can I scare off the hawks? I'll be getting reflective ribbon tomorrow, so what else could work? I'm thinking of putting big bright things outside (like a shirt or ball or some sort of bug bright toy). I would like to make a scarecrow too, but I need to have something I can do quickly before I leave for work in the morning, and I don't have anything to make a scarecrow right now.
I do have a rooster too, and the hawk got some of his tail so I know my big tough boy is doing his best.
Literally any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thank you all in advance <3
Cat thinks it's suspect, too lolThis one I made about 7 yrs ago.It could sit and stand either one.
It was frightening how real it looked at night .It creeped me out so bad I finally threw it away.
I threw it in a packer and had it crushed. That thing was demonic lolCat thinks it's suspect, too lol
Yes, I've noticed the bears seemed to have shared the good news to the hawks and whatever took a hen last month. We have been working bit by bit to get the coop more secure. It's been hard, we've not had much extra time or money for about a year. We're going to open the coop gate so the dogs can get in there. We had no issues with hawks or predators when the gate was open, only when the gate is closed do things swoop in or break in. Once we add the netting and reinforce the fence I am hopeful that our chickens will get a better chance at longer livesThe predators you have visiting your coop will dramatically increase as time goes by(word gets around in predator world) They'll become more persistent as food becomes scarce in the winter and spring (reproduction)You could make a hoop coop run if you have any wire fencing laying around or stock panels. There are several great posts on how to build one in our coop and run section. Here is one example found online.Instead of using 2 x 4's or 2 x 6's on the sides you can attach them to metal fence posts. https://survivaljack.com/2021/02/draft-versatile-cattle-panel-hoop-houses/
Woah! That's creepily realistic! Maybe I should put one of my bright dresses on it and tie it to a tree so it flails around like I doThis one I made about 7 yrs ago.It could sit and stand either one.

I got a sinking feeling in my chest every time I forget I moved it and saw it near my driveway or somewhere else in my yard.Scared the wits out of me! I probably should have put a dress on it.It wouldn't have scared me so bad lolWoah! That's creepily realistic! On 2nd thought Seeing one hanging in a tree flailing its arms should be a good predator deterrents!Woah! That's creepily realistic! Maybe I should put one of my bright dresses on it and tie it to a tree so it flails around like I do
