I made a hiking one but I wanted to make one specifically for walking and running cause it’s slightly different and I currently walk a lot more than I hike.

Which still isn’t much but better than nothing.

And it’s starting to be more lately.

Yesterday I walked a lot because I went to an aquarium then the grocery store and then on the marsh with the dog.

Also the dog and I both need to lose weight so we’re going to start walking for weight loss soon aka speed walking and not doing...

I looked for a knitting thread but couldn't find any so I decided to make my own! I have only started knitting this past year but I love it! I do find it a little harder that crocheting but it is slowly getting easier. So far I have made 3 pairs of slippers, and am currently working on a shawl that to me is very complex. It consists of yarn overs, Nupps, and like 4 different kinds of decreases. Thankfully I am on my third round of the repeats so I hope I will be able to finish it.

Hi all. I am dealing with a mite infestation and I bought permethrin powder. I don’t know really how to use it. Is it safe to put directly on the birds? And if so, how much per bird? Do I mix it with some thing? I was thinking, maybe I needed to use diatomaceous earth and sprinkle permethrin into that and then dust the birds… So as to maybe dilute the potency of the powder itself? I don’t really know and I’m just guessing. The packaging doesn’t really help, it makes it sound like the powder...

My birds haven't layed a single egg since Hurricane Milton came through. It was a very scary storm. I secured the coop, thank God the coop didn't have any debris come down on it. I have been spoiling them rotten, spending more time with them, playing music even. My girls are 3 years old and one hatched 2 chicks that are 3 months old now. I'm going to have to buy store bought eggs or forget baking this holiday season. What can I do to get them laying again?

OK, before I get the common answer that "sex is determined in the egg", let me state that I know this, what I am interested in is whether one sex can survive a particular temp better than the other, resulting in for instance more "dead in shell" male eggs.

I first read this from a source that sounded pretty legit, but darn if I can find the site again, and I think they said slightly lower temps favor the females. I incubate at 37.8 degrees or thereabouts pretty much throughout the...

I've been incubating 2 indian runner duck eggs for 19 days and I took the eggs out for their 30 minute cool down and accidentally fell asleep. I placed the eggs in warm water to try warm them up and then put them back in the incubator. I candled them quickly and can still see all the veins but no movement :( have I killed these poor babies 😢

I've been wanting to start my own photo dump and general chit chat thread about my journey with my Marans and mixed flock. So here it is...
I started getting serious about my breeding adventure within the last year or so and I've got a lot to learn yet, and I couldn't have gotten this far without the help of so many members here on BYC and I'm so thankful for all that I have learned so far... ♥️

There's no way I can do a storyline of this chaos so expect a mish mash of pics, some sarcasm...

Heritage breed Cornish Chickens: why are they ignored and not widely bred Mon, 25 Nov 2024 17:19:19 +0000 https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/heritage-breed-cornish-chickens-why-are-they-ignored-and-not-widely-bred.1642181/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss 1642181 [email protected] (NewJourney) <![CDATA[General breed discussions & FAQ]]> NewJourney <![CDATA[
I was looking for Cornish Chickens earlier this year. I had a terrible time trying to find them through breeders all across the USA. There are none. At least, there are none that are publicly mentioned on any website that lists breeders of chicken breeds. The ones I found were no longer breeding/selling them. I only found two hatcheries that sell any variety of Cornish, and both of them had nearly non-existent availability for chicks. I only saw Dark and White Laced Red Cornish.

Why?

These...

Just like the title says. I want to know what people are eating for dinner, supper, whatever you call your evening meal. :)

I'll get us started, I'm making pea soup, and deviled eggs. :) We will probably eat it for a few days. Yum.

We LOVE our friends in Washington State and we know y'all love to chat! The original Washingtonians thread has over 80,000 replies which is AMAZING!

It's great to see peeps who love raising backyard chickens come together, but all that discussion in a 5 year old thread is bogging down the server when we do updates. For this reason we're starting this new Washingtonians thread.

Rest assured that the entire original Washingtonians thread will remain closed from...

For the past year I've been learning how to bake yeast breads here at home. It's been challenging and rewarding (when it all comes together right, lol).

Today for the 1st time I made up a Boule recipe and ran into a snag. Is there anyone here that's familiar with yeast breads? Since I'm here several times a day reading about chickens, it would be great to chat with others that also bake.

Soooo. Last night I was putting up my chickens when my dachshund went into a hole under the coop. The hole runs lengthen wise and could hear her barking like crazy, she wouldn't come out so I had my brother try to get her out. As we are going back and forth between the two holes on each side of the coop a terrible smell comes from the hole... SKUNK! Lucy(our dog) finally comes out smelling of skunk 🙄 . The coop is inside of my barn and this morning the whole barn still smells. How do I get...
