Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings 2 cups brown rice rotini pasta 1 cup rotini pasta 1/2 cup reserved pasta water 1 tablespoon butter 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 yellow bell pepper, cut into strips 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips 1 medium sweet onion, cut into thin strips 3 cloves garlic, minced 3 links hot Italian sausage 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes 1/2 cup tomato sauce 1/2 teaspoon dried basil 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream Directions Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil; cook rotini at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, about 8 minutes. Drain and reserve 1/2 cup pasta water. Meanwhile, heat butter and olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat. Add bell pepper strips, onion strips, and garlic and cook until softened, 4 to 5 minutes. Add Italian sausage, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Stir to combine, cover, and cook for 15 minutes.
