These apple oatmeal cookies are fruity and delicious. I like to add walnuts for texture.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 36 servings

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup butter or shortening

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1 cup diced apple without peel

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.

  3. Beat together sugar and shortening in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in flour mixture until well blended. Fold in walnuts, oats, and apple until combined. Drop spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

  4. Bake cookies in the preheated oven until edges are golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Cool on the baking sheets briefly before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
