You don’t have to go to the doughnut shop for your favorite fall treat! This apple fritter recipe is quick and easy to make at home.

What Is An Apple Fritter?

Apple fritters are deep-fried pastries made with apples and flavored with cinnamon-sugar. They’re typically found at doughnut shops and, because of the seasonal ingredients, are associated with fall.

Apple Fritter Ingredients

These are the ingredients you’ll need to make this homemade apple fritter recipe:

  • Oil: You’ll need a quart of vegetable oil for deep frying.
  • Flour: The simple batter starts with 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour.
  • Sugar: A tablespoon of white sugar lends the perfect amount of sweetness.
  • Baking powder: Baking powder acts as a leavener.
  • Salt: A pinch of salt enhances the overall flavor of the apple fritters.
  • Milk: Milk gives the batter moisture.
  • Eggs: Two eggs lend more moisture and help bind the batter together.
  • Apples: Peel, core, and chop three apples.
  • Cinnamon-sugar: Toss the still warm fritters in cinnamon-sugar.

Best Apples for Apple Fritters

Granny Smith apples are great for apple fritters because they are firm and tart, which perfectly balances the sweet flavor. Other great options include Honeycrisp, Gala, and Fuji apples. Of course, using a combination of sweet and tart varieties is always a good idea.
