Homemade Sunflower Butter

It just takes one ingredient to make this homemade sunflower seed butter! I use a Vitamix and cannot guarantee similar results with a different brand. If you don't plan on using it right away, store in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 16 servings

  • 2 cups sunflower seeds

  • 1 teaspoon salt (Optional)

Directions

  1. Add sunflower seeds to a high-powered blender, such as a Vitamix; secure lid.

  2. Select Variable 1, slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then switch to High, according to manufacturer's instructions. Push sunflower seeds into blades with the tamper; blend until sunflower butter develops an oily sheen. Season with salt. Store in an airtight container.

Cook's Notes:

I found most sunflower seeds already have salt. If you're fortunate to find unsalted sunflower seeds you may wish to add 1/2 teaspoon salt per 1 cup sunflower seeds.

If you are looking for a crunchy sunflower butter, mix in 2 tablespoons chopped sunflower seeds to the finished butter.
