This moist meatloaf is a family recipe that is a big favorite at our house. By using fresh bread instead of dried bread crumbs, you get a meatloaf that is juicy and delicious.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 8 servings

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • ½ onion, chopped

  • ¾ cup small chunks of bread

  • 2 large eggs, beaten

  • ½ cup milk

  • ½ cup chopped green bell pepper

  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt

  • ¼ teaspoon sage

  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

  • ½ cup ketchup, or to taste

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Mix together ground beef, onion, bread, beaten eggs, milk, bell pepper, salt, sage, and black pepper in a large bowl until well combined. Press into a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Spread ketchup over the top of loaf.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, about 45 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 160 degrees F (70 degrees C).
