A quick and easy little smokies and sauerkraut meal for the oven or slow cooker. It feeds a crowd or leaves leftovers for later. You can add more or less brown sugar, depending on how sour you like your kraut.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 20 servings

  • 8 apples - peeled, cored and sliced

  • 1 (32 ounce) package sauerkraut with juice

  • 4 (16 ounce) packages cocktail-size smoked link sausages

  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can cola-flavored carbonated beverage

  • 1 ½ cups apple juice

  • ½ cup brown sugar, or to taste

Directions

  1. Place apples, sauerkraut with juice, and smoked sausages into a slow cooker.

  2. Stir together cola, apple juice, and brown sugar in a large bowl until sugar dissolves; pour over apple mixture in the slow cooker. Stir to combine.

  3. Cook on High for 2 hours, then on Low for 6 to 8 hours.

Recipe Tips

You can substitute cola with beer if you prefer.

You can use beef Lit'l Smokies, cocktail franks, or chicken sausages.
