A recipe my maternal grandmother used to make. She lived to be 96. Maybe the pie helped! This is best when served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 8 servings

  • 1 prepared 8 inch pie crust

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • cup packed brown sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 5 tablespoons butter

  • cup hot water

  • 5 tablespoons molasses

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, 2/3 cup brown sugar, and salt. Cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles rice. Reserve 3 tablespoons of mixture for sprinkling top of pie.
