Waffles come with many different toppings, from syrup, berries, and whipped cream, to bacon, eggs, and fried chicken. But when actor Hugh Jackman revealed what he put on top of his waffles, fans were baffled.

Jackman posted a photo on Instagram of a meal he ate at the Waffle House in Norwich, England. It depicted a waffle smothered in some kind of creamy sauce, possibly a helping of Bolognese, and a thick layer of mushrooms in gravy.

"Happy cheat meal to me! I did not share. And I am not sorry," he wrote.

Commenters expressed horror at the idea of adding savory mushrooms to the otherwise sweet waffle.

"MUSHROOMS ON WAFFLES? IS THIS THE WOLVERINE DIET?" one said. Another wrote, "Wait, what kind of shrooms is that? On waffles?!?!" A more hesitant comment said, "I don't know about the mushrooms!" And finally, "Mushrooms on a waffle, Jack, you've changed."

It seems that fungi are a contentious waffle topping—or perhaps it's just that mushrooms themselves are a polarizing food. People seem to either love them or hate them, and being on one side of the spectrum makes it hard to comprehend the other.

We do know that Jackman was reportedly "bulking up" for "Deadpool & Wolverine," eating six meals a day that amounted to more than 8,000 calories.

"I tell you, I've eaten more chickens—I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world. Literally the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I'm in trouble," he told "Today."

So, maybe he was trying to spare a few chickens by opting for mushrooms on his waffles. Besides, it looks like he washed the savory waffle down with a sweeter variety topped with bananas, toffee sauce, and chocolate. Who's to judge Wolverine's methods, anyway? If Jackman's digging it, then so are we.
