Allrecipes' editorial guidelines Updated on September 14, 2023 The calendar may say it’s still summer, but the days are getting shorter—a sure sign that the season is winding down. Another sure sign? Fall-inspired foods are popping up everywhere. Dunkin released its fall menu in mid-August. Dairy Queen’s fall Blizzard menu is out, and of course, pumpkin spice treats are everywhere, including Costco. The warehouse store’s bakery just brought back a fan favorite that has customers so excited that they don’t care if it’s not fall yet. Lecia Landis/Dotdash Meredith Pumpkin Pie Returns to Costco’s Famous Bakery If there is one pie that’s synonymous with Thanksgiving, it’s pumpkin pie, right? But why should this creamy, delicious pie be relegated to Thanksgiving and a few other cold-weather holidays? Pumpkins are a fall vegetable so it makes sense that they’re associated with fall, but with canned pumpkin available year-round, we could be eating pumpkin pie every season. Costco may not offer pumpkin pie during all twelve months, but it has a three-month jump on the time when most people start eating the pie by bringing back its pumpkin pie. Laura Lamb of Instagram’s @coctcohotfinds alerted her social media followers to the pie’s return on both Instagram and TikTok, saying the pie is “known to be one of the best pumpkin pies.” “Love it and so cheap for how huge it is,” one follower commented. Another said, “Oh good! I love their pumpkin pie—it’s sweet not spicy.” And several commenters echoed this sentiment: “Went straight to Costco to buy one.” Those who are pregnant were particularly excited about the pie’s return with one person saying, “This has seriously been my pregnancy craving for like 2 months, but only from Costco.” How to Freeze Pumpkin Pie Surprisingly, one of the biggest complaints from social media commenters was about the enormous size of the pie. Coming in at 3.5 pounds (and costing just $5.99), it is a huge pie, and several people made note of that. “It is so big. I wish this pie was smaller,” said one commenter. Even Laura didn’t think she could finish it all herself, so she said she’d be taking the rest of it to a Labor Day party. Sharing a giant pumpkin pie with others is the perfect solution to making sure not a single slice goes to waste. There’s another solution, too: freeze it. You can freeze Costco’s whole pumpkin pies or portions of the pie by allowing them to cool completely, wrapping them in two or three layers of plastic wrap, and then wrapping them once again using aluminum foil. Freeze for up to one month for best quality. Defrost frozen pumpkin pie in the refrigerator. Defrosting on the counter will result in soggy pumpkin pie. Of course, this method works for any pumpkin pie, not just Costco’s. So go ahead and buy a pumpkin pie in September, have a slice or two, and freeze the rest to eat as the days keep getting shorter and cooler. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
