What do you do when the mood strikes for a Big Mac and there's a long line at the drive-thru? Head on over to the nearest Walmart and pick up your own special sauce for burgers at home. You know the kind in the McDonald's jingle that gets you singing about "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun."

A former McDonald's corporate chef, Mike Haracz, the same chef who revealed his hack for scoring copycat McDonald's chicken nuggets at home recently shared his tip for the Big Mac sauce copycat in a TikTok that went viral with fans of the Golden arches.

"Do you want to buy Big Mac sauce from the store?," Haracz asked. "I'm a former McDonald's chef and I have your best option."

Where To Buy Copycat McDonald’s Big Mac Sauce

The chef revealed that Walmart's Great Value Secret Sauce will deliver the most accurate version of Big Mac sauce outside of a McDonald's. It's worth clarifying that he does say it isn't his favorite special sauce on the market—but by comparing the ingredient lists and nutrition panels of the Great Value Secret Sauce to that of McDonald's Big Mac Sauce, this is definitely the most accurate one out there.

"The [sauce] that best replicated Big Mac sauce from McDonald's that you should go buy if you want it is Great Value's 'Secret Sauce,'" he told his burger followers. "Look at the ingredients statement, it's almost identical."

The Walmart burger sauce option is available in a convenient squeeze bottle for just $2.80 for 12 fluid-ounces. The sauce is slightly sweeter than the McDonalds' version according to Haracz and is described as a "burger and dipping sauce." So don't forget to use it for your fries, too.

Big Mac fans have opinions on how to recreate the beloved burger sauce. Some recipes call for ketchup to give the sauce the sweet notes and distinctive color. Other versions from online home cooks argue that ketchup is not part of the ingredient line-up and that the light pink color is due to a dash of paprika. There are also many people who think a bottle of Thousand island dressing can work as a substitute ingredient but it won't satisfy the ratio of pickled relish Big Mac fans look for in a sauce swap.

According to Haracz he feels that the bottled version at Walmart is the, "closest thing you can get from the supermarket that is almost exactly like the Big Mac sauce from McDonald's." So the next time you're at Walmart, you'll have to pick up a bottle and try it for yourself.
