George Van Aken Ratings & Reviews 8 Basic Crêpes 04/16/2013 You need this recipe! I make them so often I don't need to use the recipe. Simple changes make these wonderful for both sweet and savory crepes. Do NOT omit resting the batter in the fridge. Eaters will laude you kitchen "skills"! ;) Helpful (2) Old-Fashioned Pancakes 04/16/2013 Do you miss Grandpa's "flapjacks"? Well, you've found the recipe! I know it SAYS pancakes, but that's not accurate. These are my Grandpa's flapjacks, (except for the cooking spray)! You can't go wrong with this recipe. Whoever eats these will request them often. I make them for our overnight guests and everyone loves them. I love a certain box mix for it's convenience and versatility. So sorry, I won't be using that mix for flapjacks ever again. Nor, I am certain, will you! Helpful (8) Stuffed Cabbage Rolls 04/16/2013 Reminds me of hunting deep in the Allegheny forest. This was a deer camp staple that never failed to satisfy and warm you up when you returned half frozen from the woods! I multiply this recipe and use an electric roaster. This is perfect for large gatherings. A buffet favorite that will make you a star! Helpful (2) Army SOS Creamed Ground Beef 04/16/2013 Traditional S@*# On a Shingle taste without the dried and jarred beef. I would not have believed how close this comes to the Army's version using ground beef. Bravo! Helpful (1) Classic Rice Pilaf 04/16/2013 A basic rice pilaf that tastes great as is, but can be used as a base for your own creation! The whole family ate the lot. As we usually have one child per meal who simply refuses to eat at least ONE side, the fact that there were no leftovers is irrefutable proof that this is a five star recipe! Baking was also a nice change of pace for rice. It made it easier to leave it alone while it steamed! Lol Helpful (4) Banana Crumb Muffins 08/16/2012 I make this recipe exactly as written, with the one exception; I use a 12 muffin pan. My family absolutely LOVES these muffins. It's a splendid way to empty the freezer of all those frozen banannas, and, best of all, they taste delicious! The crumb topping is awesome! Thank you Miss Lisa, for a real keeper. Helpful (1) Old-Fashioned Potato Salad 07/10/2012 This recipe is just what it says it is, old fashioned potato salad. My guests and I LOVED it. I made it the night before and let it meld overnight. This made it much easier to concentrate on the Fourth of July slow cooked baby back ribs... If you are looking for grandmas potato salad, look no further. Helpful (4) Flatlander Chili 12/08/2010 As a lover of chili, I have to say that this is a GREAT recipe! It was easy and quick to put together. The flavors were clasic chili all the way. Unfortunately, my family is scolfield (sp?) handicapped and I was forced to cut back on the chili powder. Using corn meal, (1/4 c.), to thicken the chili about 10-15 minutes before taking it off the heat, really made it thick and hearty. For all you chili lovers out there, stop searching and fire up the stove! Helpful (5)
