The Angevin Empire in Western Europe (1154–1214)
Today you will learn about the Angevin Empire (the possessions of the Angevin kings of England who held lands in England and France during the 12th and 13th centuries), and its rulers which were only 3: Henry II (1154–1189), Richard the Lionheart (1189–1199), and John Lackland (1199–1216).
Also, you will understand how a royal house having its origin in the county of Anjou in the west of France, came to rule over an area covering roughly half of France, all of England, and parts of Ireland and Wales. I covered he origins of Plantegenet dinasty from Geoffrey, Count of Anjou and Duke of Normandy. The influence and power of the House of Anjou brought them into conflict with the kings of France of the House of Capet, to whom they also owed feudal homage to their French possessions, bringing ...

Louis VII of France
Louis VII (called the Younger or the Young) (French: Louis le Jeune) (1120 – 18 September 1180) was a Capetian King of the Franks from 1137 until his death. He was the son and successor of Louis VI (hence his nickname) and he married Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in western Europe. Eleanor brought the vast Duchy of Aquitaine as a dowry to Louis, thus temporarily extending the Capetian lands to the Pyrenees, but their marriage was annulled in 1152 as no male heir could be produced.
Immediately after the annulment of her marriage, Eleanor married Henry Plantagenet, Duke of Normandy and Count of Anjou, to whom she gave the Aquitaine, five sons, and three daughters. When Henry became King of England in 1154, as Henry II, he ruled over a large empire, spann...

HOUSE of PLANTAGENET - WikiVidi Documentary
The House of Plantagenet was a royal house which originated from the lands of Anjou in France. The name Plantagenet is used by modern historians to identify four distinct royal houses – the Angevins who were also Counts of Anjou, the main body of the Plantagenets following the loss of Anjou, and the houses of Lancaster and York, the Plantagenets' two cadet branches. The family held the English throne from 1154, with the accession of Henry II, until 1485, when Richard III died. Under the Plantagenets, England was transformed, although this was only partly intentional. The Plantagenet kings were often forced to negotiate compromises such as Magna Carta. These constrained royal power in return for financial and military support. The king was no longer just the most powerful man in the natio...

Robert I, Duke of Normandy
Robert the Magnificent, was the Duke of Normandy from 1027 until his death. Owing to uncertainty over the numbering of the Dukes of Normandy he is usually called Robert I, but sometimes Robert II with his ancestor Rollo as Robert I. He was the father of William the Conqueror who became in 1066 King of England and founded the House of Normandy.

1066 Battle of Fulford ancient literature about the battle
This 27min video uses the words of the early writers who wrote about the first battle in the autumn of 1066. Illustrated with film, maps, cartoons and images of the archaeological finds, it describes the complex actions by some remarkable warriors that saw King Harald 'Hardrada', the leader of the Viking army, defeating the English army and capturing York.
The victory was short lived: Five days later King Harold II arrived from the south and won the battle at Stamford Bridge, killing most of the Norse invaders.
Then King Harold had to head south to deal with the Norman invasion but without the armies of two earls or his cavalry. The film suggests who came up with this cunning plan that ended the Anglo-Saxon era.
